The Argentinian ban on Yiddish newspapers is further
proof of the methods pursued by the Axis to suppress free
institutions everywhere. The ban was lifted after being
completely repudiated throughout the continent.
First comes anti-Semitism. Then follows the suppression

Satan in the Vineyard
An interesting story is told by
the rabbis regarding the effect
of wine upon a human being.
When Noah was one day hard.
at work plowing up the fallow
ground to plant a vineyard,
Satan came near and asked
him what he was doing.
Upon being told, Satan of-
fered to help him and said he
knew a way to make the grapes
grow in much greater abund-
ance.
Noah, of course, was glad to
accept his offer of assistance
and Satan went forth returning
with the blood of a lamb, the
blood of a monkey, the blood
of a lion and the blood of a
pig, which he sprinkled upon
the ground to fertilize it.
When his work was done, he
said:
"Those who taste of the juice
of the grape in moderation will
become gentle as a lamb. Those
who partake more generously
will become bold as a lion.
Those who drink even more
freely will become frolicsome
and lively as a monkey but
those who partake to excess will
become beastly as a pig."
Says the Talmud further:
"Wine is a turn-coat; first a
friend, and last an enemy."
"Drunkenness is an egg from
which all vices are hatched."

Dear Boys and Girls:
The important series of Fall
Jewish holidays comes to an end
today, with the observance of
Simhat Torah.
I am sure that many of you
will derive great pleasure from
the services on this day—which
means in English the Day of the
Rejoicing in the Law.
But you must not limit your
joy in the Torah to this one day.
You must continue your syna-
gogue attendance and your dili-
gent Jewish studies all the time.
I wish to you all a pleasant
holiday and a happy Sabbath.
UNCLE DANIEL.

Common to Jewish Worship.
Sabbath days and festivals are
frequently ushered in by the
"Kiddush," an ancient cere-
mony proclaiming the holiness
of such days. The Kiddush is
performed by reciting a bless-
ing over wine. In many homes
the Kiddush is also repeated
before the Sabbath noon meal,
and in Orthodox synagogues it
is chanted Friday night during
the services.
