Major Baxter was the prosecutor. The trial lasted only one day. Mayor Israel Rokach of Tel Aviv appeared in court as a character witness for Sacha- rov. When cross-examined by Major Baxter, he stated that he knew of the existence of the Jewish defense organization, Haganah, and considered its establishment justified. He add- ed that he did not know from what sources the Haganah se- cures arms.
