Now that the Jewish organizations of Detroit have resumed
their year's activities, renewed interest - is being shown in war
activities, including the movement inaugurated by The Jewish
News and the A. Z. A. to send cigarettes free to servicemen over-
seas. •

. The Jewish Women's European. Welfare. Organization this week
made possible another shipment of cigarettes by contributing $50
to The Jewish News cigarette fund. A shipment of 20,000 cigar-
ettes was made . this week by the Lorillard Co., makers: of -Old
told Cigarettes; with this gift. Each carton of cigarettes in this
shipinent will carry a label with the name of the donor.
The Hyman Altman Cigarette Fund for servicemen overseas
was swelled this week with gifts from the folloWing: Mrs.' Routk-
sky, 3307 Monterey, in honor of their grandson's first birthday, •$5;
Goldie Tauber, $5; Blaumen of Zion, Mrs. Rubin, $5.
Another gift -for $1.50 was received from the Brusons of
4211 W. Grand.
Additional shipments of other makes of cigarettes **will be
made by The Jewish News during the coming week.

Son of Rabbi Dov Ber-and Na-
talie Nose Manischewitz, he was
born in Cincinnati 52 years ago.
Educated' in Palestine at Yeshi-
voth Etz Chaim, Torath Chaim
and Meah Shearim from 1901 to
1914, Rabbi Hirsch Manische
witz, returned to Cincinnati
where he organized a branch of
the Ezras Torah Fund, the Cen-
tral Relief Commission, the
Yeshivoth Etz Chaiin and the
Welfare Fund of Palestine from
1914 to 1931.

During his stay in Palestine
he organized -the Free Loan So-
ciety, Sick Benefit Foundation
and the Relief Fund for the Poor.
Since 1914, with the assistance
of his brothers, Meyer, the late
Jacob U., Joseph and Max, they
maintained the Rabbi Ber Man-
ischewitz Yeshiva in Jerusalem.
