Synagogues Respond Liberally To Appeal For Third War Loan Congregations throughout the city responded liber- ally to appeals made during Rosh Hashanah in behalf of the Third War Loan. Meinbers of Local Bnai Brith groups arranged for the appeals, and it is estimated that more than $2,000,000 in Bonds was bought by Jewish worshippers. First Hebrew Congregation of Delray, responding to an appeal by Rabbi Ernest E. Greenfield and Pfc. George H. Duschinsky, bought $12,500 in Bonds. Pfc. Duschinsky was here on furlough visiting with his mother, Mrs. Helen Duschinsky of Delray. Congregation Shaarey Zedek's Bond sale is believed. at this writing to have exceeded the $200,000 mark. Sachar Talks at Temple Beth El, Oct. 15 Hillel Foundation Director To Speak at Sabbath Eve Services The opening Sabbath Eve serv- ice of Temple Beth El will be held on Friday evening, Oct. 15, at 8:15. Dr. Abram L. Sachar, national director of the Bnai Brith Hillel Founda- tions, will be the guest speaker at the opening ser- vice. He is well known national- ly as an histo- rian, thinker and eloquent speaker.. He is regarded Dr. Sachar as one of the most popular lecturers in the country and a large congregation is anticipated to greet him at the service. Dr. B. Benedict Glazer will officiate at the service and the musical program will be rendered by the Temple quartet under the direction of Julius Chajes, with Jason Tickton at the organ. Drs. Glazer and Franklin to Deliver Sermons in Auditorium and Chapel Yom Kippur will be ushered in by Temple Beth El with the singing of the traditional Kol Nidre by the Temple quartet this Friday. Julius Chajes will direct the quartet and Jason Tickton will be at the organ. In addition to the rendition by the quartet, Bernard Argiewicz, member of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, will render a cello solo of Bruch's famous arrangement of Kol Nidre. Mr. .Chajes' own composition, "By the Rivers of Babylon," which has been widely used in Temples and Synagogues throughout the country, will be rendered in its original version for voice. Cello and organ. Many of the traditional, as well as. new compositions, will also be heard at the Yom Kippur Eve and Yom Kippur Day services. The Yom. Kippur Eve services on Friday, Oct. 8, will begin at 7:30. The Yom Kippur morning service, on Saturday, Oct. 9, will begin at 10. At 2 p.m. on Saturday, the special children's Yom Kippur service will be held in the main auditorium. The Yom Kippur afternoon service will begin at 3, memorial services at 4 and the concluding Yom Kippur sen. vice (N'Ilah). at 5 p.m. Dr. B. Benedict Glazer will of- ficiate and preach the sermons in the main auditorium and Dr. Leo M. Franklin in the Brown Memorial Chapel.
