The. Orthodox Rabbis Detroit,
in a Yom Kippur appeal to the
Jewish community, call for the
co-operation of all Jews in the
movement to enforce the observ-
ance of the Sabbath.
The rabbis' appeal was framed
at a meeting held Oct. 4 at Yeshi-
vath Beth Yehudah.
Urging that everything possible
be done to prevent profanation of
the Holy Day of Rest, the rabbis
appeal for wholehearted support
of the Sabbath observance move-
ment.

"The Modern Meaning of the
Festival of Succoth" will be the
subject of Rabbi Leon Fram's
sermon on the occasion of Tem-
ple Israel's observance of the an-
cient Biblical harvest festival.
The Succoth Service of Temple
Israel will take place in the Lec-
ture Hall of the Detroit Institute
of Arts, Thursday morning, Oct.
14, at 10:30.

opera which is forbidden under
Nazi domination in Czechoslo-
vakia.
"The Bartered Bride" is the
first opera to be produced by
the Detroit Friends of Opera. Its
story deals with the life of the
common people, inhabitants of
a small Czech village.
Leading roles will be sung by
Marguerite Kozenn, who has
been acclaimed in Europe and
in this country; Donald Dame,
an American tenor now with the
New Opera Co., in New York;
Alfonso Pedroza of the San Fran-
cisco Opera Co.; Avery Crew,
tenor soloist of St. Paul's Cath-
edral of Detroit; and seven other
well-known Detroit singers.
