KUIBYSHEV (JPS)—Michael
Kussovitzky, former cantor of
the Warsaw Great Synagogue,
told reporters in Moscow that
during his recent concert tour in
Russia many soldiers had re-
quested him to sing Kol Nidre
and had asserted that it inspired
them to go into battle to avenge
the atrocities perpetrated on the
Jews by the Nazis.
At a concert given by Mr.
Kussovitzky at the Moscow
State Conservatory of Music, the
audience was stirred by the tra-
ditional Hebrew melody. Jews
and non-Jews alike were moved
and the cantor was called upon
to repeat the chant several
times.
