Jewish Inductees Get Extension
Of Furloughs During Holy Days

Dr. Glazer Urges Men to Make Requests for Permis-
sion To Remain with Families Over Holidays;
Enable Inductees to Worship at Home

Dr. B. Benedict Glazer, rabbi of Temple Beth El,
was informed this week by Major More, head of the
local induction center, that Jewish inductees in the
Army whose furloughs before entering service expire
on the eve of or during the High Holy Days may apply
for an extension of their furloughs so that they may
observe the Holy Days with their families.
Dr. Glazer urges that such inductees send their
requests for such extensions at once to the Command-
ing Officer, Induction Center, Battle Creek, Mich.
It is pointed out by Dr. Glazer that local induction
boards are making arrangements not to induct Jews
into the service during the Holy Days, but are post-
poning their being sent to active service until after
the Holy Days.
The Army and Navy religious committee of the
Jewish Welfare Board has made arrangements with
Chaplain Perly of Camp Custer for the deferment until
Oct. 4 of Jewish servicemen who were to report on Rosh
Hashanah.
Newly-inducted servicemen who are- affected are
asked to communicate with Rabbi M. J. Wohlgelernter,
TR. - 1-2934 or TY. 21-9363.
