Religious School
At Bnai David to
Open this Sunday

Bnai David Holds
Slicoth Services
Saturday Night

The Bnai David Religious
School will start its 10th season
with a convocation for students
and parents this Sunday, in the
auditorium of the synagogue,
Elmhurst and 14th Ave., at 10:30
a. m.

Congregation Bnai David will
usher in the Holy Day season
with Slicoth services this Satur-
day, at midnight. Rabbi Joshua
S. Sperka will address the As-
sembly on the meaning of the
Slicoth prayers.
Cantor Irving Ringel, assisted
by a voice choir under the direc-
tion of David Shkolnick, will of-
ficiate. All are invited, admis-
sion being free.
Joseph A. Block, president of
the congregation, announced that
members must obtain tickets by
Slicoth night. Tickets of mem-
_bers_not jakez Qut. by :tber.P. will
be put on sale on Sunday morn-
ing.
Evening services for Rosh
Hashanah will begin at 6:30.

The convocation will induct
students of the kindergarten
grade.
Burton Hendricks, a graduate
last year, will represent the male
graduates. After explaining the
significance of the Talith, he will
wrap each boy in the Talith.
Shirley Diamond, to represent
the girls of last year's :graduating
class, will explain the signifi-
cance of the Torah and will give
each child a miniature Torah.
The children will then be pre-
sented to Rabbi Joshua S.
Sperka, who, before the. open
Aron HaKodesh, will lead them
in their first lesson.
Pupils will convene to meet
their teachers. Material contain-
ing - information about Rosh
Hashanah will be distributed.
Regular classroom work will
begin Sunday, Oct. 3, at Central
High School. The teachers' staff
rill work under the direction of
Rabbi Sperka and Max Chom-
sky, educational director.

Morning services will start at 8.
Rabbi Sperka's sermon for the
first is "The World in Reverse."
On the second day, he will
preach on "Our Own Post-War
Program." Cantor Ringel and
the choir will officiate.
For boys and girls under the
age of 16 will include readings
in Hebrew and English of impor-
tant prayers of the Machzor and
appropriate stories will be told.
The service will be under the
direction of Max Chomsky.

In Cairo Jack Benny was the
entertainer for a party hosted by
King Farouk. The guests were
500 wounded American soldiers.
Latest word from Benny is of his
plane landing in Iran after circl-
_tke aizput for Nig§ in a_
dUst storm. Benny's itinerary is
designed to take him' to the most
out-of-the-way encampments of
the armed forces.

"no sufficient reason" for oust-
ing from the Army's School of

politician, Maj. Michael Grazyn-

in by congregation Bnai Moshe
with prayers at 6:45 p. m. Wed-
nesday. Morning devotions will
begin at 7:15 Thursday and Fri-
day and will be led by Cantor
David Katzman, who will be as-
sisted by a choir under the di-
rection of Nathan Turbowsky.
Rabbis, Moses Fischer and'
Jacob J. Nathan will deliver the
sermons on alternate days and
they also will address the Junior
Congregation which will hold
separate services in the Harry
Rosman Assembly Hall, 10 a. m.
to 12:15 p. m. Thursday and Fri-
day, under the direction of

the junior services will be by
ticket, which can be obtained at
the congregation office free of
