pilots trained at the army school
at Avenger Field, Sweetwater,

Mrs. Bessie Ostrow of 3918 Cal-
vert has received a box of Japa-
nese souvenirs, including a flag
and Japanese money, from her
son, Sgt. Allen Ostrow, who is
serving with a mechanized in-
fantry unit in the Aleutians.

1st Lt. Jacob C. Rosengarten,
M. C., having completed a six-
weeks' training course at Carlisle
Barracks, Pa., is now stationed at
Fort Lewis, Washington. Albert
H. Rosengarten, a brother, 17, is
enlisted in the Air Corps. They
are the sons of Mr. and Mrs. Sol
Rosengarten of 1944 Elmhurst.

Pvt. Sam Schwartz, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Morris Schwartz. of
2911 Tuxedo Ave., passed the
Army V-12 test at Central High
and has been attending the Uni-
versity of Kansas for one month,
where he is being trained in
medicine. Former president of
A. Z. A. chapter 63, which he re-
organized when it was near dis-
bandment, Pvt. Schwartz plan-
ned the program for the "Youth
and Democracy" rally held last
spring at the A. Z. A. District
Six convention in Detroit. Com-
peting against a line of cham-
pions, which included the winner
of the Chicago convention, he
captured the oratory contest and
was- awarded the coveted trophy.

Murphy to Return
as Jewish Center
Dance Instructor

the Jewish • Community Center
for the Fall term of classes to be-
gin on Tuesday, Oct. 5.
Instruction in Rhumba, Samba,
Conga, Fox Trot, IWt -z:a.n.ri other
vallauie for elementary
and advanced students. Arrange-
ments also may be made for pri-
vate lessons, short term courses,
or small group classes.
Murphy has presented exhibi-
tion dances, has served as in-
structor at the Book-Cadillac
School of Dancing, has taught at
the Detroit Boat Club, and was
formerly on the staff of the Rod-
rigues School of Dancing in New
York City.

Mr. and Mrs. Philip Weisberg
of 2972 Gladstone Ave. had a
week of genuine rejoicing as a
result of a family reunion in
which their two sons—both in

Young Israel of Detroit an-
nounces that a Sunday morning
class in current events, to be di-
rected by Rabbi Max J. Wohl-
gelernter at Yeshivath Beth Ye-
hudah beginning with Oct. 3.
The Sabbath afternoon class-
es of Dr. Samson R. Weiss, at the
Yeshivah,' the Talmud Shiur
class of Rabbi Naftali Carlebach,
at the Joy Road building, and
the study group of Dr. Hugo
Mandelbaum at the Bnai Moshe
are being continued.
Adult classes in Jewish his-
tory, Mishna for beginners and
Talmud were inaugurated on
Sept. 21.
On the last Wednesday of each
month, a symposium will be
conducted on a subject of cur-
rent interest.
The adult school during the
next few weeks will be in ses-
sion on Sept. 28, Oct. 5, 12 and
19.

Upon the return home for a
brief leave of their son, Lt. Da-
vid H. Weisberg, who served in
Alaska and the Aleutians, par-
ents and son left on Monday for
a several days' visit with the
other son and brother, Cpl. Ir-
ving L. Weisberg, a radio opera-
tor in the Air Corps, in a fighter
control squadron, at Baltimore.
Lt. Weisberg served as an in-
telligence officer in Alaska. He
was on patrol duty at the Aleu-
tians and flew over Kiska while
on duty in the Air Corps in the
Pacific. He originally left for
duty on June 20, 1942, and re-
ceived his commission on March
3, 1943.
A graduate of Cass Technical
High School and a student at the
University of Michigan at the
time of his entering active serv-
ice, he has been, in the Enlisted
Reserve Corps (ERC) since July
24, 1940.
On Oct. 1, Lt. Weisberg will
leave for Santa Ana, Calif., for

Bnai Moshe will begin this Sun-
day at 10 a. m. Classes will start
Sunday, Oct. 3.
Classes will be held in history,
music, art and dramatics. There
will be classes in the Hebrew
language for students in the in-
termediate and high school de-
partments.
The school's capable staff of
teachers is under the direction of
Rabbi Jacob J. Nathan.

Post of the AMerican Legion and

He speaks proudly of the fact
that 25 members of the family—
cousins and other close relatives
—are now serving in the U. S.
armed forces..

Theater Party on Oct. 30

Mrs. Monte Weston, president
of the Detroit League of the Na-
tional Home for Jewish Children
at Denver, is informed by the
National Home that post-war
plans are now being formulated.

The Home at Denver will be
prepared to open its doors to a
large number of homeless refu-
gee children. Last Thursday,
Mrs. Louis Davidson, general
chairman of the theatre party to
be held on Oct. 30, was hostess
to chairmen and co-chairmen of
this fund-raising project.
