Detroit Round Table of Catholics, Jews and Protestants
announces that Dr. Alvin D. Hersch will speak as a member
of a good will team in army camps in Texas from Sept. 20

. Dr. Hersch is: a native Detroit-
er, four generations of his family
having been residents here. A
graduate of the Detroit College
of Law 1909, he was granted the
LL.D.- degree by the University
of Detroit in 1926, where he has
served as part-time professor in
the school of law. He was in
partnership with J. Walter Do-
hany, General Counsel of Michi-
gan Central Railroad froth 1911
until Mr. Dchany's death in 1931.
He is co-author with Mr. Justice
Frank Murphy of Model Public
Defender Bill. He has served as
chairman of the Detroit Com-
munity Fund and has been active
in' the Allied Jewish Campaign.
He. is also a - member . of the
Board of Directors of the Temple
Beth El. Dr. Hersch is also a
32nd degree Mason and member
of the Moslem Temple Shrine.
Col. Cohee was born in Indiana DR. ALVIN D. HERSCH
He was graduated from Wabash
College with an A. B. degree,
and from the Union Theological
Seminary, N. - Y., and holds an
M. A. degree • from Columbia
University, as well as a D. D. •
degree from Daniel Baker Col-
lege, Brownwood,---Tex. He was
commissioned a First Lieutenant
in the Army in 1916, and was
made a colonel in 1942. He saw
service in France,. China and the
Philippines. He was awarded the
Distinguished Service Cross, and
the French Croix de Guerre for
extraordinary heroism in action
near Rembercourt, France, 'Nov.
1 and 2, •1918, • •
Chaplain .Cohee Worked untir-
ingly under constant artillery
fire for two days in charge of
stretcher bearers, personally as-
sisting in carrying wounded men
to safety without sleep or thOtight
of his own security.

In civil life Major Gavin was
past president of the Tulsa Coun-

Christians and Jews. Maj. Gavin

Pius XI.

In preparation for the open-
ing of the Temple Beth El Re-
ligious School on Saturday, Sept.
18, and Sunday, Sept. 19, Dr. B.
Benedict Glazer met with the
entire staff of the school.
The school office is open daily
from 9 a. m. to 5 p. m. to register
new pupils. The office also will
be open on Sunday morning;
Sept. 12, from 9 a. m. to 12 noon.
A parent or a guardian must ac-
company the child when regis-
tering. The school conducts
classes from pre-kindergarten
through high school.

tions by mail concerning the

These services will be con-
ducted by Deo M. Franklin, who
also will preach the sermons.
A professional quartet and or-
ganist trained by Julius Chajes,
music director, will render the
musical program.
The supplementary services in
the Brown Memorial Chapel are
open to non-members. Cards of
admission, for which there is a '
nominal charge, are available at
the Temple office, which is open
daily from 9 a. m. to 5 p. m., and
on week-ends from 9 a. in. to 12
noon.
