Nation's Leaders
Praise Courage
of Jewish Soldiers

A small volume called "Amer-
ica Salutes the Jewish Heroes in
the Armed Forces of the U. S.",
containing the tribute of the na-
tion's leaders to the courage and
loyalty of American Jews has
just been published by the
United Jewish War Effort, 330 W.
42nd St., New York City.
Headed by Gen. MacArthur
and Adm. Halsey who sent their
messages by cable from the
Pacific war zone, the book con-
tains 42 tributes. The list in-
cludes Vice-President Wallace,
four members of the President's
Cabinet, 11 governors, 11 sen-
ators, three War Administrators,
five college presidents, the heads
of the AFL and CIO, Mayor La-
Guardia of New York City and
Viscount Halifax, British Am-
bassador to the U. S.
There is a statement in the
book by Governor Kelly of Mich-
igan.
The purpose of the volume, as
explained in the preface, written
by Dr. Stephen S. Wise and Dr.
Joseph Tenenbaum, heads of the
United Jewish War Effort, is "to
strengthen the ties of solidarity
among all loyal Americans and
to refute the vicious propaganda
of our common enemies, under-
mining our national unity."

While refugee immigration to the U. S. during the 10
years of the Hitler regime has increased the population of this
country by less than two-tenths of one per cent, the newcom-
ers have made contributions to victory and to the enrichment
of American life out of all proportion to their numbers, it was
reported at a meeting under the auspices of the National

Refugee Serivce, in New York. ,,.
