42,000 Jaffa Jews
Seek Affiliation
In Tel Aviv Area

TEL AVIV (Palcor)—Forty-
two thousand Jewish residents
of 15 exclusive Jewish quarters
under the municipal jurisdic-
tion of Jaffa have reiterated an
urgent appeal through their
representatives for legal affilia-
tion with the Tel Aviv Muni-
cipality. The area in which they
reside borders on the Tel Aviv
Municipality, from which they
receive public services costing
£80,000 per year.
The appeal asserted that they
were no longer able to tolerate
their present position, inasmuch
as they are paying fees to Jaffa
for which they do not receive
commensurate services.

Service to Disabled

tions will be devoted to render-
ing the maximum benefit to the
men and women who have be-
come ill or have been disabled
in the service of their country
and require aid in re-establish-
ing themselves. _
The plan provides for the...ap-
pointment by the Jewish Wel-
fare Board of a veterans service
committee on which both orga-
nizations will be represented,
and which will supervise the
expanded program.

MRS. ARTHUR W. MONSON

At 5:30 p. m. on Sunday, Aug.
29, Shirley Cohen, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Isadore Cohen of
Collingwood Ave., became the
bride of Lt. Arthur W. Monson,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Mon-
son of Pontiac. Dr. A. M.- Hersh-
man performed the ceremony at
the Shaarey Zedek Synagogue.

The bride was lovely in her
full-skirted gown of ivory satin,
the long, tight bodice and sleeves
of which were made of chantilly
lace. Her blushing bride's veil of
ivory illusion fell from a Dutch
cap made of matching lace and
trimmed with satin bands. She
carried a white prayer book to
which were attached white or-
chids.
Miss Blanche Begun attended
the bride as her maid of honor,
and Mrs. Joseph Rubin, the
groom's sister, and Miss Virginia
Wider- were the bridesmaids.
Benjamin Monson served his
brother as best man.
Following the ceremony there
was a dinner and reception at
the Wilshire Hotel.
The young couple left for Sa-
vannah where Lt. Monson is sta-
tioned with the Anti Aircraft
Artillery at Camp Steward.

Lehr anstalt fuer die Wissen-

in New York on Aug. 1 will be
paid when the Jewish Publica-
tion Society publishes posthum-
ously 'A Century of Jewish Life',
it was announced this week by
Dr. Abraham A. Neuman, presi-
dent of Dropsie College.
It was a great tribute to the
universality of Dr. Elbogen's
spirit that,the Jewish Publication
Society entrusted this German-
Jewish scholar with the task of
writing a sequel to the monu-
mental 'History of the Jews' by
the famous historian Heinrich
Graetz. 'A Century of Jewish
Life'• will be published in De-
cember.
"His death brings into poig-
nant relief that which his corn-
ing to these shores signified, that
the curtain has fallen upon the
scene of Jewish culture in Germ-
any, and that one of the most
brilliant adventures in the strug-
gle of the Hebraic spirit for crea-
tive conciliation with the genius
of the West has ended in trage-
dy," Dr. Neuman said of Dr. El-
bogen.
