L ACTIVITIES IN SOCIETY
Mr. and Mrs. Melville S. Welt of Balmoral Rd. have returned
from a few days in Beulah, Mich.
Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Levin of Cambridge Rd. are spending a
few weeks in Hilton, Ontario, Canada.
Mrs. William Fixel of Connecticut Ave. has returned from a
month's visit in New London, Conn.
Mr. and Mrs. Arnold N. Brodie of Oak Dr. and Leo I. Franklin
of Edison Ave. have returned from a cruise to Murray Bay, Quebec.
Dr. and Mrs. Willard Mayer of Boston Blvd. have returned
from a month's stay in Estes Park, Colorado.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert J. Newman of Canterbury Rd. left last
Saturday for Maine, to call for their adughters, Janet and Linda,
who have been at camp for the summer. En route home they will
visit in Baltimore with Lt. Commander and Mrs. Louis A. Schwartz.
Mrs. Sidney Allen and her son, Jay, of Lincolnshire Rd. have
returned from an extended visit in California.
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Ginsburg of Chicago Blvd. have as their
guest Harold Van Baalen of Jacksonville, Fla.
Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Weisman of Boston Blvd. spent the last
week-end in Beulah, Mich.
Dr. and Mrs. Shmarya Kleinman have returned from Boston,
where Dr. Kleinman took a' Course in Cardiology at the Harvard
Medical School.
Phil Elkus, son of Mr. and Mrs. Nat Elkus of 18244 Oak Drive,
who has been on a furnishings buying trip for a month, is visiting
with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. W. Barnett of Los Angeles,
Calif., formerly of Detroit. He will leave shortly for San Francisco
and will return home on Sept. 5.
Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Brodie of Chicago Blvd. left Friday eve-
ning for . New York City to meet their daughter, Madeleine,
upon her return for Highland Manor camp. They will spend two
weeks with Mrs. Brodie's mother, Mrs. M. Schaffer, in Atlantic
City, N. J.
Mr. and Mrs. Hugo Parshall of the Wilshire Hotel have returned
from a Georgian Bay cruise.
Mrs. Joseph H. Ehrlich of the Belcrest Hotel returned on Mon-
day from a 10-day visit in Mackinac Island.
Mrs. Lewis B. Daniels is the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Ivan
Frankel of Muirland Ave.
Mrs. Samuel Rubiner, her daughters, Marianne and Catherine,
and her son, Allan, of Muirland Ave. are vacationing at Greenbush
Inn.
Lt. (j.g.) and Mrs. Harvey Gass of Lynn,•Mass., are planning
to come here shortly to visit Mrs. Gass' brothers and sisters-in-law,
Mr. and Mrs. Julian Zemon of Wildemere Ave. and Mr. and Mrs.
Oscar Zemon of Roslyn Rd. Lt. (j.g.) Gass is on leave from his
post at the Base Hospital in Honolulu.
Mrs. Tobias Garon and her daughter, Gita, of Stoepel Ave.
have returned from a month's visit in Superior, Minn.
The Misses Carrie and Lulu Barmann of Buffalo are visiting
here with relatives and friends.
Miss Eiga Hershman of New York • City is visiting with her
parents, Dr. and Mrs. A. M. Hershman of Calvert Ave.
Mr. and Mrs. David Wilkus of Boston Blvd. have returned
from a two weeks' trip to Murray Bay, Quebec.
Mr. and Mrs. Moe Leiter of Chicago Blvd. have returned from
a fortnight's visit in Muskoka, Canada.
Mrs. Ethel Miller of 3378 Richton Ave. will hold open house in
honor of her daughter, Rosalyn Copley, and son, Bruce, who will
make their home in Waco, Tex., on Sunday, 4 to 10 P. M. No cards.
Miss Marian Goodman of Collingwood Ave. has returned from
an extended vacation in California.
Mr. and Mrs. J. Arthur Schiff • have returned home after a
two-week vacation in New York, Wilkes-Barre and Philadelphia,
Pa., and Camden, N. J., with relatives and friends. In New York
they were joined by their son, Donald, who was the guest of his
aunt, Edith Miller, at a summer resort at Gloucester, Mass.
Mrs. Perry Burnstine of LaSalle Blvd. has returned from Little
Rock, Ark., where she visited with her husband. Capt. Burnstine
has since been transferred to Camp Fannim, Texas.
Mrs. Samuel Gerson of the Belcrest Hotel has returned from
Philadelphia where she visited with her son-in-law and daughter.
Congress Women
To Meet Sept. 8
Detroit Women's Division of
American Jewish Congress will
hold the first meeting of the year
at Congregation Shaarey Zedek,
Wednesday, Sept. 8, at 1:45 p. m.
Rabbi Morris Adler of Congre-
gation Shaarey Zedek, one of the
Detroit delegates to the Ameri-
can Jewish Conference, will be
the guest speaker on the topic
"The Congress Program f o r
World Jewry."
Rabbi Adler is a member of
the executive committee of the
Detroit chapter of the American
Jewish Congress.
Mrs. Irving Dworman, Mrs.
M a x Dushkin, Mrs. Samuel
Green and Mrs. Abe Katzman,
vice-presidents of the local chap-
ter, will outline plans for the
coming year. Mrs. Morris Wein-
garten, newly elected president,
will preside at the meeting.

The bride is the daughter of

groom is the son of Mr. and
M r s. Sigmond Gunsberg of

Mrs. Krause acted as brides-
maid and Mr. Gunsberg's broth-
er, Fred, was best man. Rabbi
Moses Fischer performed the

National Hadassah
Leader to Address
Luncheon Sept. 14
Mrs. Moses P. Epstein, a for-
mer president of National Ha-
dassah and national chairman of
the organization's Youth Com-
mission, will be the guest speaker
at a luncheon meeting of Detroit
Hadassah, at the Book Cadillac
Hotel, Tuesday, Sept. 14, at 12:30
P. M.
Mrs. Morris Adler, Detroit
chapter's president, will preside
at the meeting which will mark
the intensification of the joint
Youth Aliyah and Honor Roll
Drive of which Mrs. Ralph Dav-
idson and Mrs. H. L. Jackson are
joint chairmen. The drive will
be concluded in October. Mrs.
Frank Wetsman and Mrs. Ben
Mossman are co-chairmen of the
Minyanim Committee through
which groups of 10 women, by
contributing a minimum of $2.00
per month for a year aid in the
rescue of a child. Hadassah, is
charged with responsibility for
Youth Aliyah work in America
by the Jewish Agency.

throughout the summer months,

Aliyah have increased the scope
of Hadassah activity and have
made a larger budget necessary
to carry on Hadassah's traditional
projects supported through the
Honor Roll, which include Ha-
dassah Rothschild University
Hospital, Nurses Training School,
Hebrew Schools
Reopen Sept. 1
Bernard Isaacs, superintend-
ent of the United Hebrew
Schools, announced this week
that the schools will resume ses-
sions on Wednesday morning,
Sept. 1.
Until reopening of public
schools, sessions ' will be held
mornings.
Because the major time in the
classes will be devoted to a study
of the Holy Days, the prayers and
customs of the forthcoming Holy
Period, parents are urged to see
to_ it that their children return
to classes on Wednesday.

Refrigeration Aiding
Palestine War Effort
NEW YORK — Regulations of
food supply by the installation
of refrigeration plants in rural
settlements is a novel feature in
the agriculture of the Middle
East which has been introduced
with a view to increasing Pales-
tine's war effort.
Since the war began, refrigera-
tion plants have been installed in
50 of the Jewish communal set-
tlements that have been estab-
lished on the land of the Jewish
National Fund.
