What do you think of the •following
resolution being adopted.,by the Ameri-
can. Jewish Conference this week end to •
be forwarded to the United States Gov-
ernment for action by our armed forces
and those of the United Nations:
'It is most important that nothing be
done to offend the ;religious susceptibili-
ties of the Jewish, people during our tern-
porary occUparicy of Palestine. It is .es-
sential •in the choice of - persons, repre-
senting any of-the United Nations, to ad-
minister • such functions—especially per-
sons of the. Jewish faith—that care shall
be taken to avoid entrusting those func-
tions to anyOne who is professedly or'
generally - known to , be opposed to the
Zionist , views of the Jews. of Palestine,
or a. known representative of ,anti-Zion,
ism.
,Tailure to follow this policy will
gravely imperil the achievement of the
good will which the Allied nations have
set fOr themselVes in helping to create
the opportunities for establishing the
freedom of oppressed nations."
What was that comment of yours? Ir-
responsible—even to think ,of submitting
such a resolution? How can we possibly
dream of concocting an insulting docu 7 ,
merit ,of . that' kind?' Do we want. to im.-
peril the 'invasion of Etirope and the
status of Jewish boys in 'the - army,' not
to -speak of jeopardizing the status of
Jews' in the - United States? - •
Well,. my friends, -the above -language
is part of a resolution' adopted by the
Supreme Council of the Knights, . Co 7
lUmbus. The only difference is tat the
word Palestine has been substituted for
Italy and Zionism has taken the place of
Catholicism. The Knights of Columbus,
upright Americans all, had no hesitancy
'whatever in saying to their government
that they didn't feel it was right for any
anti - Catholic official to be .messing
around the Catholic people of Italy. And
the K. of C. didn't feel—as Jews pre-'
sumably might—that military policy was,
being interfered with.
