Mrs. Joseph H. Ehrlich of Detroit Named as One of Leading Women
Delegates to American Jewish Conference

"LeSser Clays and Other l'oeMs");

What matter how sullen the misty years,

How brooding the angry sky,

/ix RS. JOSEPH H: EHRLICH,
in member of Detroit's dele-
gation to. the American Jewish
Conference, is ."One of the most
'conscientious women in the na-
tion, who has served her com-
munity 'modestly and greatly
during many years."
This • is the tribute paid this
community's woman leader by
Miss Martha Neumark, editor of
the Independent Jewish Press
Service, in a syndicated article—
"America's Choice of Women:
. Impressions of Some Delegates
to the American Jewish Confer-
ence"—recently released.
In her article, Miss Neumark
points out that some 55 women,
about 12 per cent of the entire
delegation, will participate in the
important conference.' She de

tered by Jewish women in • the
United States since the last war."

Ruth Warters are the represent-
atives 'selected by Brooklyn. They
offer a good cross-section of the
various currents of Jewish life.

Most Brilliant
"As the most brilliant I would
nominate Marie Syrkin, who is a
school teacher by vocation, a poe-
tess by avocation and a vehement
advocate of all that is liberal in
Jewish life. She is one of the edi-
tors of the Jewish Frontier and
was put forward by the labor
Zionist group, with which she
is identified. Married to one of
the finest Jewist poets, Marie
Syrkin, daughter of one of the
great Zionist leaders of a past
generation, may be relied upon
not to permit any committee of
which she is a part to become
too stodgy. Her temperament is
impatient with temporizing..

mar de Sola Pdol, Mrs. Rose Hal-
prin, Miss Rose Jacobs and Mrs.
A. P. Schoolman. Mrs. Pool has
had long and fruitful experience
in Jewish life. She knows Europe
and Palestine as well as America.
"Able to express herself fluent-
ly, she makes friends by virtue of
her moderate views. Considering
the fact that tempers may become
frayed during the hot Aug-Jst
days of the Conference, it will be
helpful to haNie a woman who
keeps her balance as well as does
Mrs. Pool. The fact that she is
a member •of the American Jew-
ish Committee is another indica-
tion that she will be helpful in
reconciling views on controversial
issues. Mrs. Halprin and Miss
Jacobs are both former presi-
dents of Hadassah. Both have
had long years of experience in
administrative work. Both have
spent many years in Palestine.

Elder Stateswoman
"By many Miss Jacobs is re-
garded as the elder stateswoman.
Her counsel is widely accepted by
those who appreciate experience
tempered by conviction. The high
regard in which she is held by
non-Zionists as well as Zionists
was shown when, . at the last
meeting of the 'Jewish Agency
Council, she was named non-
Zionist member of the Jewish
Agency .ExecutiVe, although eV-
eryone recognized that_ she was
not .shedding one iota _of. her Zion=
fist principles thereby. Mrs. A.
Schoolman is Chairman of Ha-
dassah's Palestine committee.
"Mrs. _Samuel Goldstein, Presi-
dent-of Mizrachi, is another illut-
tration of the fine- type of Ameri-
can Jewish women who will share
in the Conference. Service - to the
Jewish community is not a part-
time preoccupation. :. She is de-
voted to the cause of rebuilding
Palestine in accordance with the
Mizrachi principles, based on the
traditional concepts of the Torah.

.

Other Representative
"The other designated represent-
ative of Mizrachi is Mrs. Molly
Golub, secretary, wife of an at-
torney and herself a lawyer. She
teachesschool and was formerly a
member .of - the Board of Educa-
tion of the' Yeshiva in Flatbush.
"The - National Women's League
of the United Synagogue has
named Mrs. Samuel Spiegel, its
president, and Mrs. Morris Klein,
its recording secretary.
"On the West Coast, Mrs. Ber-
tha Sieroty is another illustratic-,n
that New York has no monopoly
on wisdom, tact or experience.
The head of the big gifts section
of the women's division of the
Jewish Welfare Fund of Los An-
geles and one of its most gener-
ous spirits, Mrs. Sieroty has nave
approach to Jewish problems. She
is conscious of the pitfalls and the
difficulties. She may be relied
upon to give her' support to af-
firmatiVe courses of action.
