COLUMBUS, 0.—Establishment of the Arnold Schiff
Interfaith Scholarship, valued at $100 annually, at the Bnai
Brith Hillel Foundation of the University of Michigan, to be
awarded annually to the Michigan student who has done
the most to develop and strengthen interfaith ideals on the
campus, was annnounced here by Mr. and Mrs. Albert Schiff.

Created as a memorial to their
son, the late Arnold Schiff, who
was a member of Hillel Founda-
tion while a student at Michigan,
the scholarship will be awarded
on the recommendation of three
faculty members representing
the Protestant, Catholic and Jew-
ish faiths from students nomin-
ated by the ministers, priests and
rabbis serving the University
campus, in collaboration with the
University Religious Counselor
and the director of the Student
Religious Association.
The factulty committee con-
sists of Dr. 'Erich A. Walter, as-
sistant dean of the College of
Literature, Science and Arts and
member of the board of govern-
ors of the Student -Religious As-
sociation; Dr. Edward B. Ham,
assistant professor of French;
and Dr. Jacob Sacks, assistant
professor of pharmacology, mem-
ber of the board of governors of
the Student Religious Association
and treasurer of the Ann' Arbor
Jewish Committee.
A 'similar scholarship had
previously been established by
the Schiffs in memory of their
son at the Hillel. Foundation of
Ohio University._ Other inter-
faith fellowships have been
created by Bnai Brith at the
University of Alabama and Uni-
versity of Illinois. At Alabama
the fellowship is 'named for the
late Grover Cleveland. Hall,
journalist and foe of bigotry. At
Illinois the fellowship memorial-
izes Dr. Edward Chauncey Bald-
win. Several weeks ago Bnai
Brith received a grant from the
family of Morris Furman in New
York to establish the Burton
Furman, U.S.N., Memorial Fund
to further inter-_-faith relations on
campuses of New York City col.

ism was defined this week by
George Bernard Shaw as "ha-
tred of the lazy, ignorant, fat-
headed Gentile for the pertinaci-
ous Jew who, schooled by adver-
sity to use his brains to the ut-
most, outdoes him in business."
In a statement issued by 'him

state-aided capitalism instead of

Albert Feldstein, 8513' Asbury

the 22nd member of the Feld-
stein family to enter the service
when he is inducted into the
armed forces next week. He will
be the third brother in the serv-

WASHINGTON, D. C. — Post-
ponement until after the war of
the observance of the 100th an-
niversary of Bnai Brith, which
was to have been celebrated
throughout the country on Oct.
13, was announced here by Henry
Monsky, president of Bnai Brith.
Decision to put off the observ-
ance for the duration was made
at a meeting of the Central Ad-
ministrative Board.
Bnai Brith's three delegates to
the American Jewish Conference
will be headed by Mr. Monsky.
The other two delegates of Bnai
Brith will be 'Sidney G. Kusworm
of Dayton, and Edwin J. Schan-
farber of Columbus.
The Women's Supreme Coun-
cil of Bnai Brith will also have
three delegates to the Confer-
ence. They are: , Mrs. Maurice
Turner of Chicago, president of
the Council; Mrs. Albert Wold
man of Cleveland and Mrs. Ida
Cook Farber of Brooklyn.

Premier Badoglio's abolition of
Fascist legislation and institu-
tions would be applied to the
anti-Jewish laws was realized
with the report that he had issued
a decree that voided the applica-
tion of the Nuremburg anti-Jew-
ish laws in Italy. The measure
ordered the immediate release
of 12,000 persons in concentra-
tion camps or jails for the "crime"

of a Baltimore cantor achieved
British musical history when he
was given the honor of conduct-
ing, the BBC Symphony Orches-
tra at the Royal Albert Hall and
at the same time to conduct the
premiere of an overture which
he had composed.
The American Jewish musi-
cian who won the distinction is
T/Sgt. Hugo. Weisgall, son of
Cantor Adolph J. Weisgall. of
Temple Chivuk Emunah, Balti-
more, Md. Sgt.. Weisgall also is
a nephew of Meyer W. Weisgall,
who produced many important
Jewish theatrical productions in
the United States.
, The overture written by Sgt.
Weisgall, who is serving with
the U. S. Army in Britain, is en-
titled "American Comedy —
1943." It was featured with mu-
sic by - other American compo-
sers on a program broadcast by
BBC by short wave to this
