OWI Releases Film
Praising Refugee
Jews in Britain

NEW YORK (JPS)—How 15
companies of the Pioneers were
formed by Jewish refugees in
England and• what they are do-
ing to speed the winning of the
war is described in a short film
which has just been released in
the U. S. by the Office of War
Information.
Called "Lift YoUr Hands," it
was produced by the British
Ministry of Information. Al-
though the members of the
Pioneer Corps are described
o n 1 y as "anti-Fascists," the
types that are used, together
with their names, emphasizes
that these loyal fighters for
Britain are Jews.
Motion picture houses through-
out, the country are expected to
show the film in the coming
weeks.

All faiths and races partici-
pated in the reception to Vice-
President Henry A. Wallace last
Sunday, at a rally at the State
Fair Grounds as well as at the
breakfast in his honor at the
Book Cadillac Hotel.
The. Jewish Community Coun-
cil- of Detroit - was one of the
sponsoring organizations that ar-
ranged the rally, together with
the labor organizations, the Free
World Association, church
groups and . others.
Abner Lamed presided at the
breakfast meeting, which was at-
tended by more than 200. James
I. ,• Ellmann and Isaac Franck,
president and executive director,
respectively, of the Jewish .Com-
munity Council, were at the
speakers' table. Supreme Court
Justice Frank Murphy was a
guest at the breakfast.
Of interest was the remark by
Mr. Larned that the fact that all
faiths and races were represent-
ed at that gathering was the best
evidence that the sponsorship of
the meeting spelled "American
citizenship."
At the breakfast, the vice-
president declared that the
"have not state of mind is a
peril to the world."
His address at the rally at the
Fair Grounds was marked by a
terrific attack on "American
Fascists." He said:
"We will not be satisfied with
a peace which will merely lead
us from the concentration camps
and mass.-murder. of Fascism—
into an international jungle of
gangster governments operated
behind the scenes by power-
crazed, money - mad imperial-
ists."

WASHINGTON (JPS)—In an
article released here by the Am-
erican Red Cross, Dr. Ferdinand
M. Isserman, now on leave from
Temple Israel, St. Louis, as a
special representative of the
American Red Cross in North
Africa, describes the flight in
which a Torah was carried in a
U. S. Flying Fortress to an air
base at the front.
Dr. Isserman relates that
Chaplain James Davidson, Jr.,
in charge of chaplains at an air
base in North Africa, requested
that he accompany him to his
post because "there are scores
of Jewish boys, one of whom has
just been awarded the Disting-
uished Flying Cross for drop-
ping his bomb load after being
seriously wounded."
The Rabbi took "a 300-year-
old Torah" and the Jewish chap-
lains' flag and flew to the base.
