Greatest Crisis The group revealed that an ap- peal had been submitted to Dr. Silver asserting that "the Zionist movement is faced with the greatest crisis in its history, re- quiring leadership that will be courageous, stimulating and in- spiring," and declaring that he Was the one man in America to take the helm. The fight on the British White Paper policy for palestine, due to go into effect next year, was said to be one of the important tasks requiring the best leadership. Dr. Silver also was reminded that preparations must now be made to prepare Palestine for mass Jewish immigration after • the war. His Supporters Zionist leaders from all sections of the country have joined in making the appeal to Dr. Silver to state that he would be "ready to serve if called upon." The list includes Dr. Harry Friedenwald, honorary v i c e- president of the Zionist Organiza- tion of America and one of its first presidents, and the following Detroiters: Abraham Srere, Rab- bi Leon Fram and Philip Slomo- vitz. Famed Painting Is on Display 11101• A world famous oil painting is now on display at the Julian Art Galleries,. 124 Penobscot t ldg. The painting, entitled "My Wife's Lovers," was made more than 65 years ago by Carl Kah- ler for Mrs. Kate Johnson, a San Francisco millionairess, the .third floor of whose palatial home was devoted to the care of 300 An- gora and Persian cats. The artist sketched for three years among the cats before commencing the magnificent work depicting 42 life-size por- traits of Mrs. Johnson's feline aristocrats. In her will she left $500,000 for the care of the cats. Eccentric though she no doubt was, she also willed $10,000,000 for orphanages, indiscriminate of race or creed. Visitors are welcome to see the famous painting at the Ju- lian Art Galleries, frOm 9:30 to 5 p. m. Incidentally, a letter is also on display from Maj or Bowes who knew the lady and was acquainted with the paint- ing, and who had seen the cats in her mansion.
