Keys Is Named Chairman
Of War Record Committee
Complete Record of Jewish Men and Women in Service
To Be Compiled; Procedure of Collecting Data
Outlined; Volunteect Workers Needed

Mr. Keys said that his commit-
tee hopes to enlist the cooperation
of hundreds of volunteer workers
in the task of gathering the war
records.
He pointed out that as a basis
for gathering these records, the
office of the Jewish Welfare Fed-
eration has a list of approximate-
ly 35,000 prospects and contribu-
tors to the Allied JeWish Cam-
paign; a list of names of _18,000
family units; lists of organiza-
tions and congregations„ includ-
ing the names and addresses of
their officers; a record of more
than 5,000 names of men and wo-
men in the armed forces already
compiled for the Jewish Welfare
Board Army and Navy Commit-
tee, and several hundred forms
representing returns from the
queStionnaires which were print-
ed in The Se -wish NeWs three
months ago.

Proposed Procedure
The war records committee
will have the cooperation of the
fund-raising organization of the
Allied Jewish Campaign, includ-
ing the Detroit Service Group;
the Junior Service Group-, the
Women's Division and the Organ-
,tions Division. ;
The propOsed procedure for
gathering the records is as • fol-

This educatienat program will

tee and will cover the following:
(1)—Publicity in the Anglo-
Zewish and YiddiSh press,
printing- special forms to be
filled out and returned, as well
as 'publicity in', the Temple,
Synagogue and Organization
bulletins..
(2)—Use of the Jewish radio
program. ,
(3)—Direct-by-mail letters to
be sent to the 18,000 family
units.
(4)—Arrangements with or-
ganizations for speakers to ad-
dress their meetings.
B — Direct-By-Mail Canvass.
The summer months will be util-
ized for a direct-by-mail canvass
and the following method will be
used:
(1)—A letter to the list of
35,000 prospects, enclosing a ,
printed form and return en-
velope. This will serve as a
follow-up to the letter sent to
the.18,000 family utits as :these
names -will. be. . repeated in the
list of 35,000 names.
(2)--A letter to all organiza-
tions :requesting them . to can-

requires. a special type of investi-

Personal Canvass
C—Clearance and Preparation
of Prospect List Before Personal
Canvass. In order to avoid dupli-
cation of effort, the prospect list
will be cleared by eliminating
the names of those who have sent
in forms With the necessary in-
formation.
D—Personal Canvass. The per-
sonal canvass wills not begin until
after Labor Day. Although one
group may assume the responsi-
bility for organizing the volun-
teers, this is recognized as a city-
wide project and as many groups
as possible will be invited topar-
ticipate.
The committee will follow the
lines generally pursued in - de-
veloping a fund-raising proced-
ure, except that 'this solicitation
will be done on a geographical
setup rather than through trade
and professional interests. For
example: A specific geographical
area will be assigned to a Division
which will be composed of a suf-
ficient number of daptainS and
workers to cover the number of
dames which will be assigned to
that partictilar
