Maurice A. Enggass, co-chairman with Harry R. Solo-
mon of the collection committee of the Detroit Service Group
of the Jewish Welfare Federation, this week joined in issuing
an appeal urging immediate- Fpr-

payment of all outstandin
pledges made to the 1942 Allied
Jewish Campaign.
Mr. Enggass' statement fol-
' lows:
"The collection campaign of
the Detroit Service Group, now
in progress, actually winds up
a most remarkable year's ac-
; tivities in behalf of the Allied
Jewish Campaign.
"Detroit Jews have reason
I to be proud not only of the
I splendid results attained in the
1942 Allied Jewish Campaign
; but also the fine records in
payments on pledges made to
the last independent drive
before we joined the War
Chest.
"There are still, however,
MAURICE A. ENGGASS
some pledges outstanding on
which we aim to obtain final payments during the present
collection campaign.
"Committments are made to the various agencies par-
ticipating in the campaign, and their budgets are drawn,
based on the pledges made. If these pledges are not paid in
full, the vital work of the respective agencies can not be
accomplished.
"Our appeal is, naturally, to the pride of our community
to make the record a perfect one and to assist us in assuring
a 100 per cent coverage of all contributions.
"Collection committees have been organized to assist us
in the present drive. We hope that all those whose pledges
have not been fully paid will cooperate with us so that we
may completely clear the 1942 Allied Jewish Campaign by
making it an all paid effort in behalf of all our local, nation-
al, and overseas needs."

Charges Delegates to Parley
Failed to Do Anything
To Save Refuges

WASHINGTON (JPS) — Rep.
Emanuel Celler, who has been
conducting a one-man fight in the
last few months on a variety of
Jewish issues, has demanded of
President Roosevelt that if an-
other international conference on
refugees should be held he
should not appoint as an Ameri-
can representative Rep. Sol
Bloom, of Bermuda fame .
Mr. Bloom, commenting on Mr.
Celler's indictment, asserted that
only a "personal feud" was in-
volved. The aged chairman of the
House foreign relations commit-
tee took the occasion once again
to praise the work of the Ber-
muda refugee parley, at which
he was one of the three American
representatives.
While Rep. Bloom was saying
that he and others were urging
the State Department to release
the report of the refugee con-
ferees, Celler asserted that "when
the Bermuda report is published,
the delegates will pin medals on
themselves because they will
have offered to find havens for
those victims who have escaped
to Spain, Portugal and Switzer-
land.
"There was no need to go to
Bermuda for a 10-day vacation
to save those already saved. They
can't lay any unction to their
souls that they did anything
constructive in that regard," he
said.
Said Mr. Bloom: "I am satis-
fied that we did everything that
we possibly could do under the
circumstances."
