The Week's Best Stories

Loaned By the Gestapo
Some time ,ago - the . ..German
•i authorities in Prague arranged
an exhibition, called ironically
"Bolshevik. Paradise," as a part
of the anti-Russian campaign.
The chief attraction of the ex-
hibit was . the `Torture Chamber
in Russia."

The Czech population of
Prague largely ignored the exhi-
bition with the exception . of
school children, who had to at-
tend it under conr;u1sion.. One
day a large group of Czech visi-
tors arrived and surprised the of-
ficials in charge by showing an
unusual interest in the show.
The German officials were
highly pleased, but their pleasure
was of short duratiOn. Af ter the
group left the exhibit, the Tor-
ture Chamber bore the inscrip-
tion: "Loaned by the Gestapo
Company. After using the ex-
hibit please return."

One of the favorite slogans of
Nazi propaganda was that wo-

Kirche (church),
Kuche (kitchen).
Kinder (children).
According to the Czech gal-
lows humor, during the v.'ar and
especially since the latest mobil-
izal-Ion of the German man and
woman power, the initials - K.K.
K. have been changed to k.k.k.

Post-War Germany's Size
A German patrol and a Danish
patrol had paced the same beat
so long that they finally had be-
gun to talk. One day the German
sighed, "Oh, if only peace would
come, so that one could do some-
thing besides . soldiering!"
"What would you do then?"
the Dane asked.
"First I'd take a •cycle-trip
through Greater Germany."
"Is that so?" said the Dane.
"But—what would you do in the
afternoon?"

. Commenting on the action of the religious leaders, Kenneth
Leslie, editor of the magazine, declared that "it took Christian
courage to sign this confession, for confession it is, of a 2,000-year-
old Christian sin, the sin of a spiritual pride which permitted re-
ligious controversy to turn into political murder, the sin of a cold
complacency which is literally midwife to the passionate rascism of
the Nazis."
.
In the course of the pledge to "speak plainly about the cowardly
propaganda of anti-Semitism," the signatories say:' "In the present
world crisis modern Jewry suffers in the persons of its innocent
children the first and hardest blows of tyranny. The very cross on
which Jesus .died for the people is today becoming a bludgeon in the
hands of those who would cheat the people of his gift to them of a
creative share in the world's building."
