Jews Urged to Have Faith
In Allies for Zion's Future

'Impossible to Satisfy Zionist Aspirations During War,'
Says High British Official; Declares England
'Has Solemn Obligation Toward Jews'

LONDON (JPS-Palcor)—"Jews must trust the Allied
governments and not attack them," it was declared by Bren-
dan Bracken, British minister of information and friend of
Prime Minister Churchill, as he reaffirmed Mr. Churchill's
"friendliness to the Zionist cause" as "well known," after
saying that "it is imposSible to satisfy Zionist aspirations
during the war."
Bracken's statement, representing the first unequivocally
friendly word that has been spoken in a long time publicly
by a high British official with regard to the Jewish National
Home, was made during a conference here with foreign press
representatives. Bracken was plied with questions about the
attitude of the British government toward Jewish immigra-
tion into Palestine in the light of the Jews' position in Europe
today.
Can't Satisfy Demands During War
"It is impossible to satisfy Zionist aspirations during the
war. The United Nations are the best friends of Zionism."
After asserting that he knew nothing about the activities
of various Middle Eastern Arab leaders who have been visit-
ing Cairo allegedly to build up a Pan-Arab Federation which
would include Palestine, he added:
"The Jews must trust the Allied Governments. This
country has a solemn obligation toward the Jews which will
be fulfilled."
Replying to a question about the settlement of Jews in
Libya, he said:
"The future of that country will be decided after the
war. Certainly Britain does not want to acquire any more
territory."

Autonomous Jewish State Urged
WASHINGTON—The establishment of Palestine as an auton-
omous Jewish State with international guarantees of protection
against foreign aggression, is urged by Bertrand Russell, noted Brit-
ish author, now residing in this country.
In an article in the June 11 issue of the New Palestine, official
organ of the Zionist Organization of America, declares that "much
of the evil wrought by Hitler is irreparable; dead cannot be brought
to life. But whatever reparation is possible it is the clear duty of the
victors to provide," adding that the establishment of a Jewish Na-
tional Home in Palestine should be an "element in such reparation."
Proposing that immigartion into Palestine be placed under Jew-
ish control, he advocates an "autonomous Zionist State as regards all
its internal affairs. It would still have to submit to external authori-
ty (which should be international) as regards its relations to other
states and to the Arabs in neighboring regions."
Jewish Agency Aide Dies In Plane Crash
LONDON, (JTA)—Wilfred Israel, a representative of the Jew-
ish Agency who was sent from London to Portugal and Spain to
arrange for the transfer of several hundred Jewish refugees to
Palestine, was among the passengers who perished on the British
transport plane shot down by Nazi aircraft over the Bay of Biscay
en route from Lisbon to England, it was learned here this week.
He was returning to London after having completed his mission
in Spain where he spent several weeks supervising the distribution
of Palestine immigration certificates to Jewish refugees who suc-
ceeded in escaping from France.
