ANTI-SEMITISM
It doesn't pay to go looking for anti-
Semitism! One of the usual attention-
callers called our attention to an omi-
nous-lookingadvertisement in the bulky
Sunday New York Times. It was in the
personal column. It asked a startling
question: "Are Jews patriotic?" And it
asked those interested to communicate
with such and such a box number and
to send in a dollar bill and they would
get the answer. Now here evidently was
some Nazi trying by sneaky methods to
suggest to the average American reader
that the Jew wasn't doing his part in the
war.
The enterprising office for which I do
this column thought that here was a real
test of its journalistic efficiency. It
would nab the Jew-baiter red-handed.
it was decided that the sacrifice would
have to be made and the dollar bill was
deposited • in the envelope — perhaps
never to be seen.
Then followed the anxious period of
waiting. Would the ad-Writer catch on
that he was being tricked by a Jewish
news agency • into revealing his identity.
Of course, the dollar bill was sent in a
plain envelope with no identifying
marks except an address. Days passed.
Finally came a little package imprinted
with the box number to which that • ad-
venturous dollar had been sent.
And there it was: a copy of "Jews in
American Wars," by J. George Fredman,
forther National. Commander of the
Jewish War Veterans, and Louis A. Falk,
a former editor of The Jewish Veteran.
And the volume was issued by the Jew-
ish War Veterans of the United States!
Well, I only hope that as Many- anti-
Semites were caught by that ad and
were tempted to find the answer to "are
Jews patriotic?" as I was.

Quotation of the Week
"The conscience of the whole world having been aroused by the
ghastly crimes against the Jewish people-of Europe, and by the slaugh-
ter in recent months, of two million men, women and children be-
cause of their religion and race, and this day having been set aside as
a day of compassion, the Fourteenth Institute for Education by Radio
at Columbus, Ohio,' expresses its' deep sympathy for the innocent vic-
tims and pauses in the midst of its deliberations for a moment of silent
prayer and intercession."

ALL-AMERICAN JEWISH FRONT
Many good reasons were advanced at
private luncheon in New York this week
as to why the forthcoming American
Jewish Conference should not be held on
July 1, as originally scheduled . . . And
it seems that Judge Proskauer, Henry
Monsky, Rabbi Stephen Wise and other
leaders interested in the success of the
conference were impressed by these rea-
sons . . . It can be expected, therefore,
that the Conference will not open on
July 1 after all . . . It may take place
during the month of July and it may
open even later, but when it takes place,
it will definitely represent American
Jewry despite the fact that the Agudas
Israel withdrew from it this week . • .
As to the site of the conference, we are
told that the executive has decided to
hold the gathering "in or near New
York" . . This would -help to solve
transportation difficulties, since most of
the delegates will have to come from the
eastern states, perhaps half of them
from New York.-
