The Junior Congregation of
Shaarey Zedek will conduct a
special Pre-Consecration Service
in the Main Synagogue on the
Sabbath preceding Consecration,
which will take place June 6.
Miss Joyce Pensler will give
the resume, and Miss Fayette
Singer will give the analysis of
the Biblical portion. Miss Zelda
Rosenthal, teacher at the Shaa-
rey Zedek Religious School and
instructor of the Consecration
Class, will present the discourse
of the morning. Sheldon Lutz,
Philip Caplan and Robert Kasle
will act as Readers.

west Pacific, with the Medical
Corps of the U. S. Army for
more than a year, returning re-
cently on sick leave, will be the
guest speaker at the annual Me-
morial Day services at Clover
Hill Park Cemetery, on Sunday,
Decoration Day, at 2:30 p. m.
Capt. Wiener, former president
of the Jewish National Fund
Council of Detroit, was active in
community affairs here before
leaving for active service in
1941. His civil and war records
were described at length in last
week's issue of The Jewish News.
Dr. A. M. Hershman and Rabbi
Morris Adler, spiritual leaders
of Congregation Shaarey Zedek,
will participate in the program.
Cantor Jacob H. Sonenklar will
chant appropriate prayers.
Participants in the annual serv-
ives will include the Jewish War
Veterans and the Shaarey Zedek
Boy Scout Troops.
Bnai David Sets
Graduation for
14 on June 13
Students Complete 8-Year
Course; Ceremonies to Be
Held in Synagogue
The Bnai David Religious
School will graduate 14 students
at ceremonies on Sunday morn-
ing, June 13, in the synagogue
auditorium. The graduates have
completed an eight-year course
of study of Jewish history, the
Bible, prayers and Jewish ethical
concepts.
The theme of the ceremony
will center around Bikkurim.
The graduates will deliver short
talks on the first fruits of Jew-
ish intellectual labor throughout
our history. They will cover
each period of Jewish history to
show the efforts that have been
made to perpetuate and revital-
ize Judaism. Rabbi Joshua S.
Sperka will speak.
The graduates are: Albert
Blumenthal, Shirley Cannon,
Shirley Diamond, Thelma Dosie,
Sheldon Erenthal, Burton Hend-
ricks, Rhoda Kaine, Adelle Mos-
kovitz, Edwin Lewinson, Phyllis
Licht, Sol Levine, Ilene Ratner,
Richard Schram and Jack Wein-
stock.

their diplomas at the Sabbath
Eve services in the lecture hall
of the Detroit Institute of Arts,
Friday night, June 4 at 8:30.
Rabbi Leon Fram has invited
Chaplain Lt. Elliott V. Fleckles
of the Army Air Force Technical
Training Command to occupy the
pulpit. He will speak on: "The
Religious Factor in Victory."
The graduating class will con-
duct the entire service, including
the reading from the scroll.
Morris Garvett, president of the
congregation, will present the di-
plomas, and Arthur J. Hass,
chairman of the school board,
will present the awards.
Winners of Scholarship Medals
are: Burton LeVine, Allan Levy
and Roy Somlyo. The medals are
the gift of the Men's Club of
Temple Israel. Winners of Activ-
ities Key are: Heinz Herz, Patt
Levinson, Allan Levy, and Roy
Somlyo.
The Morris Garvett Leader-
ship Medal, an annual prize es-
tablished last year by an anony-
mous donor, to be given to the
Temple Israel High School stu-
dent who manifests in character
and personality the qualities es -
sential to community leaders,
will be awarded to Roy Somlyo,
who also will deliver the Vale-
dictory address. The class will
serve as choir for the occasion,
singing Ernst Block's "Amer-
ica" and Dmitri Shostakovitch's
"United Nations." They also will
lead the congregation in singing
the hymn, "Who Is Like Thee, 0
Universal Lord." The graduates

Yeshivath Beth Yehudah
Starts Sabbath Classes
Dr. Samson R. Weiss, dean of
Yeshivath Beth Yehudah, an-
nounces that regular Sabbath aft-
ernoon classes have been organ-
ized for all students.
Four of these classes meet in
the Yeshivah building every Sat-
urday at 3 p. m. At 4 p. m.
Mincha services are held, fol-
lowed by the traditional Sabbath
meal for all pupils. A fifth group
meets in Congregation Beth
Moses, Linwood and Gladstone,
and is led by Rabbi J. Ungar.
