At Masonic on Sunday

will hold its 18th annual concert
at the Masonic Temple this Sun-
day afternoon at. 3 p. m., with a
stellar cast of musicians in Judas
Maccabeus, Oratorio by George
Frederick Handel, in a con-

Max Helfman.

basso of the Metropolitan Opera
who was heard recently at Ann
Arbor in that great presentation
of Verdi Requim Mass with the
Philadelphia Orchestra. Assisting
Mr. Kipnis will be Carl Neu-
mann, tenor of Boston, Mass.,
who as a cantor in Vienna, was
offered a position in the Vienna
Opera. He could not accept with-
out permission of the Chief
Rabbi, who readily granted it.
However, the sight of a cantor

Cantors They protested the
`scandal' to the Chief Rabbi, who,
wishing to be entirely fair,
granted all cantors the same per-
mission to appear in Opera. There
is no record that any of them
took advantage of this handsome
offer, nor, indeed, does it appear
that any of them were asked.
Other outstanding artists who
will appear Sunday afternoon
are Ilya Schkolnik, violinist and
concertmeister of the Detroit Or-
chestra, and Molly Goldberg, so-
prano, Lucille Zumstein, organist.
The entire production is under
the direction of Henri Goldberg,
musical director of the Freiheit

baritone.
