Zwerdling Urges Membership
in the Zionist Organization
Editor, The Jewish News:
• At the celebration of Passover,
the Festival of freedom, we
MUST remember our unfortu-
nate, wandering brothers, by
casting our vote for their free-
dom. A membership in the Zion-
ist organization will add strength
to the cause of freedom when
the United Nations consider this
world problem, so let us lift our
voices 100 percent. NOW IS THE
TIME and THIS GOD'S COUN-
TRY IS THE PLACE. If I am
not for myself, who is for me,
and if not now, WHEN?

JEW/SH AUTHORITY, IN
ENGLAND
There is no central authority
in Anglo-Jewry, the community
being organized on synagogual
rather than communal lines.
Each synagogue is autonomous,
although most of the important
synagogues belong to one or an-
other of 'several large Alliances,
or unions. The principle allianc-
es include the United Syna-
gogue, the Spanish and Portu-
guese Congregation, and the Fed-
eration of Synagogues. The
principal ecclesiastical authority
of the Ango-Jewish community
is the Chief Rabbi.

Daily Acts of Rescue Performed by IRAS

United Nations Will Need
Help of All Private Agen-
cies In Rescue Effort

While the governments of
Great Britain and the United
States will meet soon in Ber-
muda to plan the rescue and set-
tlement of refugees, the Hon.
Joseph C. Grew, special assistant
to Secretary of State Hull and
former American Ambassador to
Tokio, described the salvation of
the victims of Hitlerism as a
"United Nations task" and urged
all possible haste to save the
"unconquered men and women
of occupied Europe."
Speaking fro m Washington
over the National Broadcasting
Company network recently un-
der the auspices of the United
Jewish Appeal for Refugees,
Overseas . Needs and Palestine,
Mr. Grew emphasized govern-
ments will need the help of all
of the private agencies "which
have been carrying this burden
for the past 10 years."

He said tribute to the achieve-
ments of the Joint Distribution.
Committee, the United Palestine
Appeal and the National Refugee.

The broadcast coincided with the.
inauguration of campaigns
throughout the United States for
the United Jewish Appeal,:
which, since 1939, has raised
funds for .war relief and rehabili-
tation overseas, for the upbuild-
ing and defense of the Jewish
homeland in Palestine and for
the adjustment of refugees in the-
United States.
Conrad Thibault, baritone, was
the soloist. An original dramati-

Ambassador Grew stressed the
fact that the persecution and "at-

people of Europe was from the
beginning, and continues to be
one of . the carefully calculated:.
weapons of Nazi terror and
world domination," adding that
"Hitler accurately recognized the

Passover, the Festival of Free-

In a letter to The. Jewish News,
the Rev. Leo *Charles Donnelly,
M.D., pastor of Westminister
Cbmmunity Church, this week
endorsed the plea of DT. StePhen
S. Wise to the United Nations to
provide an, immediate haven for
Jewish. Refugees,.
"Bring all of the oppressed
Jews of the world here," wrote
the reverend," and give them ac-
cess to now - idleland, riow—idle
power, idle patents, permit them
to take care-of themselves."

Our boys can do the job ...
but they. must have the tools
to fight with the planes
and tanks and guns ... only
your purchase of BONDS
and STAMPS can give them
these fools in the quantities
required to finish the job
speedily.
