Rolfe Weil. * * * Mr. and Mrs. Joseph A. Block of 3224 Calvert Ave. were honor- ed last Wednesday evening with the presentation of a certificate, at Jewish National Fund head- quarters, acknowledging their contribution for redemption of 18 dunams of land in Palestine. They were the first contributors in the entire country towards the establishment of the Nachlath Is- rael Goldstein in Palestine. Their gift was made at the Jewish Na- tional Fund conference in De- troit Dec. 27. * * * Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Lichten- stein of Clairmount Ave. were honored last Sunday evening by the Mlawer Umgegend Verein, at a party at Workmen's Circle Cen- ter, in appreciation of their nine years of efforts in behalf of the organization. * * * Perfection Lodge No. 486, F. & A. M., entertained members of Palestine Lodge No. 559 of Tor- onto on Wednesday. Toronto of- ficials, including the Mayor, the Chief Comptroller and the Grand Lodge Officer of Ontario, were present. The guests were met at Page Eleven. the railroad station and were en- tertained at a banquet. Palestine Lodge conferred 1st degree Can- adian form on their own candi- date. Messrs. Tack, Taub, Mahler and Keywell arranged the pro- gram. * * * Jewish soldiers stationed at Kellogg Field as well as Fort Custer participated in the recent Purim affair at Battle Creek. The Detroit Jewish community and the Battle Creek Jewish community cooperated in spon- soring the affair under the aus- pices of the Jewish Welfare Board and the Bnai Brith War Service of Battle Creek. The Jewish War Veteran' Auxiliary of Detroit also cooperated. * * * A.Z.A. 504 Chapter's basket- ball team defeated the Blue Devils of Grosse Pointe High School, runners-up in the Border City League, 35 to 33, on April 2, at the Downtown Y.M.C.A. These games are played in a gold medal tournament which will conclude April 10. Joe Bale is coach of the A.Z.A. team, all of whose players are Central High students. * * * Gamma Kappa Chi Fraternity of Wayne University has sent 10 more members to the armed forces, sending the total to 63. Those who left recently are Marvin Lopatin, Chester Shaw, Leo Glantz, Jack Corinblat, Ralph Gross, Aaron Sinkoff, Charles Katz, Maxwell Nadis, Irving Berg and Sidney Zirulnik. Accepted as new pledges re- cently are: Ben Hoffman, Gabriel Allen, Gerald Gorzeck, Floyd Bornstein, Morris Rubin, Milton Buuyk, Morrie Rochlin, Alvin Nusbaum, Arthur Smith and Irwin Rosenberg. * * * Philomathic Debating Club heard the experiences Rabbi Mor- ris Adler had in a camp together with a Protestant Minister and a Catholic Priest, in an address he delivered before the group last Sunday afternoon at the Shaarey Zedek.
