WE'RE FALLING BEHIND
If the committee which sponsored the
"We Will Never Die" pageant doesn't
hurry up and give forth with a new pro-
test idea, the whole organized movement
to register American Jewry's indignation
and impatience with the United Nations'
failure to do something for the refugees,
will collapse. The sad truth is the so-
called representative Jewish bodies tire
very easily. They might learn something
from the persistence with which the Jews
of Palestine and of Great Britain have
been fighting for action.
Since Lord Halifax cannot attend Jew-
ish meetings which have any relation to
Palestine because that is against Govern-
ment policy, some of his friends have de-
vised the neat trick of tying him and his
family up with a Jewish hospital some-
where in New York.
The pictures illustrating the Halifaxes'
charming bedside manner should be a
help with those who are a bit sick over
Britain's stubborn adherence to the White
Paper policy in Palestine.
It seems that former Gov. Lehman and
Mayor La Guardia may meet somewhere
on a street corner in Casablanca one of
these days and I wouldn't put it past
Fiorello to make the greeting Shalom
Aleichem. . . . If La Guardia is to be the
ruler of all liberated Italians because he
knows the language and the people, he
could just as well manage the establish-
ment of the Jewish state in Palestine.

Quotation of the Week
"It was by encouraging anti-Semitic propaganda that Hitler suc-
ceeded in dividing against themselves such governments as Poland and
Rumania, and indeed, the whole tier of states in eastern Europe. Even
in western Europe Hitler's propaganda had some success. Reactionary
parties in countries like France, for example, rallied around anti-
Semitism and became thereby either the witting or the unwitting tools
of German penetration. Practically all the Fascist groups, although
some, like the Italian Fascists, did not originally take that position,
eventually swung around to anti-Semitism, all the way from the Brit-
ish Union of Fascists clear over to the Japanese, although the Jewish
problem in Japan can hardly be said to have been of prime importance
from any point of view. In other words, anti-Semitism, that is, anti-
Jewish, propaganda was used all around the world as a means of pro-
moting Hitler's enterprises. That is so clear now that in the present
day and in the light of all these revealed facts, any anti-Semite, any-
where at all, can be set down as one of Hitler's tools. The only differ-
ence between one anti-Semite and another is that some are knowingly
used as Hitler's tools—they are, in fact, spies in our midst—and others
unwittingly are thus used."
