Labor Zionist Convention
Asks Homeland, Equality
1,000 Delegates Adopt Three-Point Program During th . e:
National Parley Calling for Establishment of
Commonwealth, Rescue of Jews
NEW YORK (JPS) — Representing 40,000 organized
members of the Labor Zionist movement, 1,000 delegates
meeting here in a three-day convention adopted a three-point
program -calling for the establishment of Palestine as the
Jewish Commonwealth, the immediate rescue of European
Jewry and the grant of full equality to Jews after the war.
Gathered at the. Hotel Pennsyl-
vania for the meeting, which was
marked by vigorous declarations
of policy, were representatives of
the Poale Zion, the Jewish Na-
tional Workers' Alliance, the
Pioneer Women's Organization,
the League for Labor Palestine,
and Habonim Labor Zionist
Youth.
Asserting that Palestine can
absorb large numbers of Jews,
who could live in peace with the
Arabs, Moshe Shertok, political
chief of the Jewish Agency for
Palestine, told the conference, "If
we are not fully mobilized,
the Jews will lose out at the
peace conference through sheer
fault. We must demand govern-
mental powers in the upbuilding
of Palestine."
Reads Declaration
Baruch Zukerman, of the
Poale Zion, read a declaration
which consisted of the following
points:
1—The first duty of the organ-
ization is the destruction of Naz-
ism and Fascism.
2—The second task is the sav-
ing of millions of Jews in Europe.
The White Paper of 1939 should
be discarded and the gates of
Palestine opened.
3—An International League to
assure a stable peace is recom-
mended for the post-war world.
The League should have govern-
mental powers and a world court
to assure freedom and equality
among all nations and races.
4-L-The Jews must be assured
equality after the war, in order
that the Jewish problem, "one of
the greatest anomalies of our
time," may be solved. The Jewish
Agency must be given inter-
national recognition and authority
to regulate immigration to Pales-
tine.
Revoke Decrees
5—All forms of anti-Semitism
must be outlawed and anti-Jew-
ish decrees revoked. The Jews
of Palestine must be given the
opportunity to participate fully
in the war.
6—A friendly hand is extended
to the Arabs, with whom "it is
our wish to live .. in peace." The
Arabs must recognize the justice
of the Jewish claim to equal
status.
7—Greetings are extended to
Jews of all countries fighting to
win the war.
Hayim Greenberg, editor of
the Jewish Frontier, assailed "the
hypocrisy and the timidity of
those who have expressed their
sympathies behind closed doors,
but fear to take any public ac-
tion."
