jordan who aspires to become the ruler of a united Arab state
comprising Transjordan, Palestine and Syria, this week is-
sued an invitation to Arab leaders here to come to his winter
residence for "consultations" on Arab post-war problems,
including the future of Palestine.
The move by the Emir coincides with the disclosure here
by Palestine Arab leaders that they intend to establish an
Arab political representation in Jerusalem and in London
"in order to defend the political rights of the Arabs, and to
achieve national independence."
Ask Jewish Chairman's Ouster
The Palestine government has been asked by the Arab
members of the Haifa municipality to replace the Jewish
chairman of the Haifa Municipal Committee, Shabbatai Levi,
with an Arab. The municipal council is composed of four
Jews, four Christians, and two Moslems.
The population of Haifa is now 100,000 of whom nearly
70 per cent are Jews.
Leader of German Hechalutz Movement Shot
Information reaching here this week reveals that Alfred
Selbiger, leader of the German Hechalutz movement, was
executed in a concentration camp last December. Selbiger,
who directed the emigration of Jewish children from Ger-
many to Palestine after the advent of Hitler, had refused to
avail himself of opportunities to leave the country as long
as any of the Chalutzim remained.
A garden will be planted on Jewish National Fund land
here to honor his memory, the J.N.F. announced.

Select 4,000 Children for Palestine
LONDON—Colonial Secretary Stanley told Commons
that steps have been taken to select those Jewish children
who will emigrate from Bulgaria to Palestine in accordance
with the agreement negotiated by the British Government
under which 4,000 Jewish children and 500 adults will be
permitted to leave the country.
