Women's League of Young Is-
rael of Detroit met at the home
of Mrs. Isadore Kaplan, 3345 Cal-
vert. New officers are: President,
Mrs. Jack Isbee; vice-president,
Mrs. Charles T. Gellman; secre-
tary, Mrs. Emil Spillman; treas-
urer, Mrs. Harry Portnoy. Mrs.
David Applebaum, retiring presi-
dent, served in that capacity for
many years. Heads of commit-
tees were chosen as follows:
Membership, Mrs. Hy Cohen;
fund raising, Mrs. D. Shapiro;
social and hospitality, Mrs. Jos-
eph Grossman and Mrs. Ben
Weinstock; educational and voca-
tional, Mrs. M. J. Wohlgelernter;
publicity, Mrs. Samuel Cohen;
victory, Mrs. J. Carmen. A
Purim masquerade party will be
given on Saturday night, March
20, at the home of Mrs. Meyer
Weisenfeld. The committee in
charge consists of: Chairman,
Mrs. Applebaum; Mrs. Wolf
Cohen, Mrs. Max Penslar, Mrs.
Isadore Sosnick, Mrs. Morris
.Subar. Mrs. Subar and Mrs.
Shapiro were appointed as dele-
gates to the Jewish Community
Council. The next meeting will
be held Monday evening at the
home of Mrs. Max Penslar, 3773
Rochester.

Pioneer Women's Groups'
Council on Feb. 8 heard reports
on past activities as well as the
annual donor luncheon which
took place Jan. 6, through which
$10,000 was raised. The Council
chairman expressed grattitude to
Mrs. Bess Gach for her service as
chairman of the arrangements
committee as well as to all group
chairmen and workers who
helped make a success of the
affair. All groups are now ac-
tively engaged in behalf of
Gewerkshaften campaign a n d
Jewish National Fund functions.
To date, $33,000 of War Bonds
have been sold. Special efforts
are being made to raise addi-
tional funds for the children
refugees who are now coming
into Palestine and are being
cared for by the Moatzoth Ha-
poaloth.
As the latest addition to the
Pioneer Women's Organization,
members of the Brandeis Group
are sponsoring an affair, proceeds
of which will go to care for refu-
gees in Palestine and for the Red
Cross. It will be an evening of
games on Tuesday, March 2, 8
p. m., at - Workmen's Educational
Center, 11529 Linwood.

Maimonides Women's Auxiliary
is raising funds for the War
Chest contribution by sponsor-
ing luncheonettes followed- by
card games at 1 p. m. on Feb.

Ezra Women's Division, togeth-
er with the Federation of Polish
Jews, increased efforts to send
packages to war prisoners in
Germany. Ezra Women will spon-
sor a card party Tuesday, March
23, at Jericho Temple. Mrs. Sadie
'Weinberg and Mrs. Jack Kahan
head the arrangements commit-
tee. Ezra Women and the Polish
Federation will support the Mo'os
Chitim campaign to aid European
Jews.

Home for Aged will elect officers
in March. The nominating com-
mittee, of which Mrs. David Kli-
ger is chairman, was entertained
at a luncheon meeting Thursday
at the home of Mrs. I. E. Good-
man.

ing at the Jewish Center on Feb.
22, heard a report on Red Cross
and other war activities. Those

Author of "Sabotage" Will
Address Council of
Jewish Women

Albert E. Kahn, noted author
and leader in the nationwide
fight against the infiltration of
Nazism in this country, editor of
the Hour, anti-Nazi newsletter,
and author of "Sabotage," will
address the Detroit section of the
National Council
of
Jewish
Women at 1:30 p. m. on Monday,
at the Jewish Community Cen-
ter, Woodward and Holbrook.
His topic will be "The War
Within."
Son of the late Morris Kahn
of Detroit, Mr. Kahn, who is a
native Detroiter, has attained na-
tionwide recognition for the bat-
tle he has directed against
Nazi-Fascist influences. After his
lecture here, Mr. Kahn will con-
fer with presidents of 80 organi-
zations to whom an invitation
has been sent to meet with the
guest speaker.
Arrangements for Monday's
meetings are being made by the
Women's Council's committee on
social legislation. Members of
the committee include Mrs. Louis
Bass, chairman; Miss Elizabeth
Finley, Mesdames Jacob S. Sauls,
Bernard Zondar, Bernard Lieb-
erman, Isadore Sobeloff, Richard
Katzer, Myron Rosenthal, Harry

ACTIVITIES IN SOCIETY

Saul R. Levin spent the past week in Washington, D. C.
Pvt. Hannan Kraft, stationed at Camp Robinson, Little Rock,
Ark., who came here for his brother's wedding, is spending the
week-end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Kraft of Sturte-
vant Ave.

Mrs. Jack Stenbuck of Boston, Mass., formerly of Detroit, is
visiting her sister.

Mr. and Mrs. Harold Simon of LaSalle Ave. have as their
guests Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Saltzstein of Milwaukee.
Mrs. Hermann K. Sachs and her sons, Robert and Charles, of
Wakefield Ave., left on Sunday for Abilene, Texas, to visit Capt.
Sachs who is stationed at Camp Barkeley, Texas.
Mr. and Mrs. Simon Meretzsky of Windsor are spending a few
weeks in Hot Springs, Ark.

Pvt. 1st Class and Mrs. Ernest Salwen are spending two weeks
with Mrs. Salwen's parents, Mr. and Mrs. I. Gallow of Calvert
Ave. Pvt. Salwen is on furlough from Fort Riley, Kansas.
Mr. and Mrs. Emil Loewenberg of Virginia Park are spending
the remainder of the winter in Miami Beach, Fla.
Mr. and Mrs. M. George Way burn have moved from Oakdale
Ave. in Pleasant Ridge to 26506 Hendrie Blvd., Huntington Woods.
Sheldon Lachman, who was recently graduated from the Un-
iversity of Michigan, left for Mianii Beach, Fla., to receive U. S.
Naval Aviation Training. He is the son of Barney Lachman of
Dearborn.

Mr. and Mrs. Howard Jacobson have moved from Dumbarton
Rd. and are now residing at 16171 Normandy Ave.

The Misses Solomon of Atkinson Ave have as their guests
Henry and Merrill Solomon of Fairview, Mich.

Mrs. Jules M. Goldsmith and sons, Richard and Oliver, of
17584 Cherrylawn Ave., have left for Miami Beach. They will re-
turn about May 1.

Mr. and Mrs. Meyer Waterstone of Fullerton Ave. entertained
the immediate family at a cocktail party on Feb. 14, in honor of the
graduation of their son, Alvin, from the University of Michigan.
Alvin has enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserves and expects his call
to active duty shortly.
Ensign Norman Kohlenberg is on leave in Detroit visiting his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Kohlenberg of 3211 Leslie, until
March 6.
Miss Estelle Blumenthal of Buena Vista Ave. has returned
from a nine-weeks' stay in Waco, Tex.
Dr, and Mrs. Leo M. Franklin of Edison Ave. will leave early
next week for Palm Beach, Fla.

tine" shower at Congregation
Shaarey Zedek, Tuesday, March
9, at 12:30 p. m., under the aus-
pices of the Palestine supplies
committee headed by Mrs. Saul
J. Benyas and Mrs. Morris
Wayne.
The Palestine supplies commit-
tee sends hand-sewn garments to
Palestine, for needy men, women
and children.
The use of Hadassah hospitals
by the United Nations and war
activity in the Near East have
increased the needs of supplies.
All merchandise sent to Palestine
by Hadassah is shipped free of
charge through the British War
Relief.
New and slightly shopworn
garments will be accepted. The
following articles are needed:
Sheets, pillows, pillow slips, bed-
spreads, towels, tablecloths, un-
bleached muslin, bathrobes, pa-
jamas, nightrobes, down feathers,
topshirts, dresses, shorts, sweat-
ers, aprons, windbreakers, socks,
underwear, dresses, blouses, un-
derwear.
Mrs. M. S. Perlis and Mrs.
Tobias Garon are in charge of
luncheonette arrangements.

The Annual Business Meeting of the

JEWISH CHILDREN'S BUREAU

promptly at 7:30 p. m., in the main auditorium of the
