The decree has the effect of cancelling the Vichy anti-Jewish law which barred Jews from the army, Giraud's order also covers Jews now serving in the French Pioneer Corps. They will be admitted to all fighting forces which do not include Moslems. Doctors also will be admitted to the medical service. Jewish officers and non- commissioned officers, however, will be restored to their previous rank only if they have been wounded or cited in action or "are favorably known to the military authorities." Fighting French Demand Rights for Jews Dissatisfaction with the provisions of Gen. Giraud's , order was expressed in the DeGaullist newspaper, "France," which points out that the order does not actually restore full military rights to the Jews. "It must be noted," the paper writes, "that the re-ad- mitted Jews are restored to their full army ranks in specific cases only. This does not conform with the ideals of the French and the Allies," Quezon Hits Japs' Anti-Semitic Policy WASHINGTON, (JTA)—President Manuel L. Quezon of the Philippine Commonwealth this week called Japan's policy of anti-Semitism a tribute to the patriotism of the Jews in the occupied islands. There are between 1,000 and 1,500 Jews in the Philip- pine Conimonwealth. "The Japanese are aping Nazi Germany by manufac- turing their own anti-Jewish propaganda and persecution. I am convinced that Tokio has announced this policy as a cheap way of pleasing the fanatical Nazis and as a trick to destroy the unity of the Philippine resistance," he said. Mexico to Accept 500 Jewish Children MEXICO CITY, (JTA)—The Mexican Government this week authorized the entry into Mexico of 500 Jewish refugee children from Europe. The first group of 100 children is expected to arrive here shortly, Jewish leaders stated.
