Special Service

Friends and neighbors of mem-
bers of other religious faiths are
invited to attend the Brother-
hood Sabbath Eve observance at
Temple Israel, Friday, Feb. 19, in
the Lecture Hall of the Art In-
stitiite."
Cantor Robert S. Tulman will
chant the "Peace Prophecy of
Isaiah" and the high school and
confirmation choir of Temple
Israel will sing D. Shostako-
vitch's "Hymn of the United
Nations" and Beethoven's "Hymn
of the Nations."
Rabbi Leon Fram will preach
on "The Inter-faith Basis of a
Just and Enduring Peace." Rabbi
Fram has invited his fellow
members of the Vortex Club,
Factfinders Club and Variety
Club.
This Friday evening Temple
Israel observes Abraham Lin-
coln's birthday and National Boy
Scout Sabbath. Rabbi Fram will
preach on "Abraham Lincoln and
his Bible."
Dr. Henry Hitt Crane, of Cen-
tral Methodist Church, will
preach at Temple Israel, Friday,
Feb. 26, while Rabbi Fram will
take the pulpit at Central Meth-
odist on Sunday night, Feb. 28.

Beth El Dedicates
Honor Roll; Navy
Chaplain Speaker

Lt. Horace F. Westwood, chap-
lain at the U. S. Naval Training
Station in Dearborn, will be the
main speaker at the dedication of
the Servicemen's Honor Roll at
Temple Beth El this Friday eve-
ning at 8:15 o'clock.
The Honor Roll, bearing the
names of more than 200 Temple
Beth El members now in the
armed forces, will be dedicated
by Rabbi B. Benedict Glazer,
spiritual leader of the congrega-
tion.
Rabbi Glazer will speak on
"Racial Myths and Religious In-
tolerance—Their Progress in Eu-
rope and America."

Of Honor Roll

Congregation Beth Itzchok,
3836 Fischer Ave., is successfully
conducting a Sunday School
which was organized last Novem-
ber. There are three classes for
the study of Jewish history, cur-
rent events, singing and the pre-
sentation of plays. The older
group is also studying Hebrew
and Yiddish under the guidance
of Rabbi Jacob Hoberman. Mr.
,k and Mrs. A. Warsan are teaching
the Sunday School classes.
A Purim celebration is plan-
ned. Hamisha Asar b'Shevat was
observed with a special event.

TO SPEAK HERE FEB. 17
Jan Struther, author of "Mrs.
Miniver," the book from which
the year's leading film was in-
spired, will speak at Detroit
Town Hall in the Fisher Theat-
er, Wednesday morning, Feb.
17. Her subject will be "A
Pocketful of Pebbles," or "Mrs.
Miniver Carries On."

Greater Detroit Bnai Brith
Council's one-month drive to sell
$1,000,000 in War Bonds is meet-
ing with success, officials re-
vealed this week. Detroit's goal
is the cost of two submarine
chasers. So far $750,000 in bonds
have been sold with the drive
due to end on Feb. 21.
According to Harry Yudkoff,
president of the Greater Detroit
Bnai Brith Council, Mrs. Frank-
lin D. Roosevelt praised the war
efforts of the Seattle, Wash., Bnai
Brith. She met -Leo Wisfeld,
past president of the Bnai Brith,
and Joe Gluck, war bond chair-
man in Seattle.
"Please extend my personal
thanks to your membership," she
said, when informed that the
Seattle Bnai Brith bond sales
reached $723,000.
The Greater Detroit Bnai Brith
is the first local group to join the
treasury department's newest
bond sales promotion plan to
"Sponsor a Fighting Ship."

Bnai Brith Near
Bond Sales Goal

Dr. Edgar DeWitt Jones, of
the Central Woodward Christian
Church, will address the patriotic
rally of Pisgah Lodge of Bnai
Brith Monday night, at the Jew-
ish Center, in honor of the Lin-
coln and Washington Birthdays
and in tribute to the American
Flag. The public is invited.
The color guard of the Jewish
War Veterans will be featured on
the program in a flag ceremony.
Plans are being completed for
a membership drive in honor of
Bnai Brith's 100th year, the lodge
being given a quota of 850 mem-
bers, 10 for each year of its
existence.
