Her Engagement Announced
ACTIVITIES IN SOCIETY
Mr. and Mrs. Harold J. Baskin of Cherrylawn Ave. have as
their guests their sister, Mrs. L. L. Levin and daughter, Barbara, of
Chicago.
Irwin Niman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Maxwell Niman of Richton
.Ave., and Herbert Keller, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Geller of
Greenlawn Ave., have resumed their studies at Michigan State
College, East Lansing.
Mr. and Mrs. John A. Heavenrich of Longfellow Ave. left on
Monday for Woodmere, L. I., where they will be the guests of Mrs.
Heavenrich's sister, Mrs. Louis Jacob. Their sister, Mrs. David M.
Levy of Boston Blvd., returned from Woodmere last week.
Mrs. John Alsever is returning to her home in Syracuse, N. Y.,
this Friday, following a week's visit with Mr. and Mrs. Julian Kro-
lik of Chicago Blvd.
Dr. and Mrs. Nathan H. Schlafer of Wildemere Ave. entertained
a group of. their friends at a dinner in their home on Sunday eve-
ning.
Capt. Leo J. Croll has been transferred from the Billings Hos-
pital in Indianapolis to the Ashford General Hospital in White Sul-
phur Springs, W. Va. Mrs. Croll has recently returned from a short
stay there.
Mrs. Walter Faught of Traverse City is visiting her mother,
Mrs. David J. Epston of Longwood Ave.

Mrs. Louis Adrian Schwartz and her sons, David, Jonathon and
Stephen, are leaving on Feb. 1 for Virginia Beach where they will
temporarily reside. Lieut. Com . Schwartz is stationed at Norfolk,
Va. In their absence, Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Levin of Franklin, Mich.,
will occupy their home on Cambridge Rd.
Mrs. Joseph Burak of Longfellow Ave. returned on Monday
from Grand Rapids, where she visited with her family.
In celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary, Mr. and Mrs.
Jacob Thal, will receive their friends on Sunday, Jan. 24, from 2 to
5 p.m. at the home of their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs.
Ellis Thal, of 2309 Glynn Ct.
Alison Steele, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Leighton G. Steele of
Monterey Ave., is matriculating at the University of Michigan at
the mid-term.
Mrs. Samuel Lieberman and her daughter, Miss Marilyn Lieber-
man, of Birchcrest Dr., have returned from Waco, Tex., after a
month's visit with Mrs. Lieberman's mother, Mrs. Louis Fred.
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Frank of Boston Blvd. and Samuel Frank of
Bloomfield left on Sunday for Miami Beach, Fla.
Mr. and Mrs. Hershel Kreger of Wildemere Ave. have as their
guests Mr. Kreger's parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Kreger of St. Paul.
Miss Zelma Rosenthal has come from New York City to be the
guest of her sister, Mrs. Samuel Weinstein of Gladstone Ave.
Following her graduation from the University of Michigan this
week, Miss Ruth Elaine Bloom, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George
Bloom of Tennyson Ave., is returning to her home.
Mr. and Mrs. David M. Sidder of Chicago Blvd. left last week
for Harlingen, Tex., where they will visit with their son-in-law and
daughter, Capt. and Mrs. George Lipkin. Capt. Lipkin is with the
U. S. Army Air Corps, stationed at the Gunnery School in Harlin-
gen. The Sidders' son, Staff Sgt. Richard Sidder, is at present sta-
tioned at Casa Blanca, North Africa.
Mr. and Mrs. Ben Simon of Chicago Blvd. are spending a few
weeks in Hot Springs, Ark.
Richard Kahn, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ivor Kahn of Connecticut
Ave., has graduated from Highland Park High School.
Mrs. Edward Nolish of Atkinson Ave. is spending three weeks
in San Diego, Calif., where she is visiting with her son, PFC
Bernard Nolish, who is stationed with the Marines at San Diego.
Mrs. Dora Stiglitz Wechsler of Squirrel Hill, Pittsburgh, re-
turned to her home after spending two weeks with her children, Mr.
and Mrs. M. L. Speer of Shaker Heights, Cleveland.
Mr. and Mrs. Oscar D. Berris and son, formerly of 3200 W. Bos-
ton Blvd., are now residing in St. Paul, Minn.
Cpl. Newton Burrows visited with his parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Jacob Burrows, during his recent furlough.
Mr. and Mrs. Herschel Leib were honored on their 25th wedding
anniversary on Jan. 6 at a surprise party arranged by Mr. and Mrs.
Max Leib.
Engagements
The engagement of Miss Fay
Fein, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
M. Fein of Leslie Ave., and Cpl.
Louis J. Fegelman,' son of Mr.
and Mrs. Max Fegelman of Cin-
cinnati, was announced at a
party in their honor on Jan. 9.
Cpl. Fegelman returned to De-
troit for a six-day furlough ac-
companied by his fiancee and
his mother, who visited with him
at Pueblo, Colo.

Mr. and Mrs. Louis Schlussel
of Chicago Blvd. announce the
engagement of their daughter,
Shirley Dean, to Yale Weinstein,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Wein-
stein of Utica, N. Y.
Mrs. Jacob Harvith, president
of the Mt. Sinai Hospital Asso-
ciation, announces that at the
meeting to be held at the Briai
Moshe at 1:30 p. m. on Monday,
reports will be submitted on lat-
est hospital developments. Bob
Hall will be the guest speaker
and vocal selections will be given
by Rosina Betman, accompanied
by Lee Corbman Schakne. Re-
freshments will be served during
the social hour. Members and
friends are invited to attend.
Mrs. Jacob Levine is chairman
of the night of games to be held
at the General Motors Auditor-
ium on TueSday, Feb. 9. A men's
committee under the chairman-
ship of Joseph Snyder is assisting
in efforts to make a success of
this event. Mrs. Charles Gitlin,
chairman of the public relations
committee, announces that the
event will be utilized for the
purchase of War Bonds for the
association. A special War Bond
booth will be set up that night,
with Mesdames Louis Goldfine,
Jack Rubin and Morris Solomon
in charge. They will be assisted
by the Business and Professional
League of Mt. Sinai. Enrollment
will also be taken for the Blood
Donor Bank.
Tea Will Mark 22nd Anniver-
sary of Jr. Hadassah;
Program Is Planned
Detroit chapter of Hadassah
will honor Junior Hadassah at a
tea at the Belcrest Hotel on Sun-
day, Jan. 31, 1:30 p. m., on the
occasion of the 22nd anniversary
of the junior group.
Greetings will be presented by
Miss Rosalind Levy on behalf of
the Little Women of Hadassah,
by Miss Sophie Blanche Schwartz
for the Business and Professional
Group, and by Miss Hattie Git-
tleman on behalf of the Senior
Chapter.
Past presidents of the Junior
Group will participate in the
lighting of the birthday cake.
Members of the Senior group
having daughters eligible to
membership in Junior Hadassah
have paid tribute to the impor-
tance of the work of Junior
Mrs. Irving Shevin is secre-
tary of the annual donor event.
Mrs. Samuel N. Heyman is coun-
selor of the several divisions ac-
tive in the donor event.
Hadassah by enrolling their
daughters as members of a birth-
day gift to Junior Hadassah.
Those who have not already done
so can do so at the tea to which
mothers and daughters are in-
vited. Members of the senior
Hadassah board will act as hos-
tesses.
Mrs. Louis Glasier and Miss
Anne Baker are in charge of
arrangements.
Mrs. Harry L. Jackson, presi-
dent of the Central States Region
of Hadassah, announces a re-
gional conference to be held in
Cleveland, Jan. 31 and Feb. 1.

The Ladies' Auxiliary of the
Jewish National Fund on Tues-
day inaugurated its annual effort
to enlist at least 2,000 women in
the Palestine land redemption ef-
forts through its annual donor
event, which is this year sched-
uled for March 17.
At a meeting held at the Rose
Sittig Cohen Building on Tues-
day, the chairman of the annual
donor event, Mrs. William
Hordes, reported that in addition
to the annual $5.50 donations, the
auxiliary this year is receiving
gifts of $10 from patrons and $25
'and over from those who are en-
listing as Dunam Donors. The
latter policy, she explained, car-
ries into effect the resolutions of
the Jewish National Fund confer-
ence held here to redeem a du-
nam of land for each life lost in
the Nazi cruelties in Europe.
