President's Ball Off;
Benefit Show Listed

Instead of the central Presi-
dent's Birthday Ball at the Book
Cadillac Hotel this year, there
will be a gigantic stage show, en-
tire proceeds going to the Presi-
dent's fund for the relief of in-
fantile paralysis victims.
The reason for the discontinu-
ance of the ball is twofold: first,
because of the war; and second,
because of the greater number of
people who can participate under
the theater program.
At midnight on Friday, Jan.
29, the Fox Theater will present
the show, featuring Mrs. Pia Igy,
celebrated coloratura soprano,
opera and NBC radio star, and
."The Ukrainian `Dumka' Chorus"
of which Ivan Atamanetz is di-
rector.
