AMERICA

A new fund-raising agency called
National War Fund, Inc. which will
direct the fund-raising activities for war
appeals in the United States and co-ordi-
nate these with local campaigns in order
to have only two nation-wide drives a
year, one for all other causes in the
Fall, and one for the Red Cross in the
Spring, was announced here by the Pres-
ident's War Relief Control Board, with
approving statements by the President
himself and by Charles P. Taft, a memb-
er of the Board.
Adolf Hitler has sent the two most
violent anti-Jewish Arab agitators into
North Africa for the purpose of stirring
up the Arabs against the United Na-
tions, it was asserted by Burnet Hershey,
who had just returned from a reporting
tour for the New York Post. Haj Amin
el Husseini, ex-Mufti of Jerusalem, was
sent to Tunisia and Rashid el Gailani,
anti-Jewish head of the Iraqi govern-
ment who attempted a pro-Axis uprising
which coincided with the slaughter of
Jews in Baghdad, has been propagand-
izing in Spanish Morocco under Nazi
orders, Hershey reported.
Six notorious expatriated anti-Semites
and traitors now serving Germany and
Italy as radio propagandists are to be
indicted by the Justice Department for
treason. They are Constance Drexel,
Fred Kaltenbach, Douglas Chandler,
Jane Anderson, Ezra Pound and Robert
H. Best.
Nine times during the day congreg-
ants attending mass at the St. Ignatius
Loyola Church in New York were in-
formed that anti-Semitic literature at-
tributed to the Church was falsely label-
ed. The churchmen used the unique de-
vice of public denunciation at each mass
to say that the scurrilous material had
not) been issued by the Church and,
mofeover, did not represent its senti-
ments.
The fears that friends of the Presi-
dent's Committee on Fair Employment
Practice expressed when the agency lost
its independent status and was put into
the War Manpower Commission as a
bureau were seen justified this week as
anger was voiced by liberal organiza-
tions at the cancellation of a scheduled
hearing on bias in industry.
The Polish Government-in-Exile has
agreed to pay part of the maintenance
costs for 600 Polish Jewish refugee
children who last week left Teheran for
Palestine by a roundabout way, it was
disclosed here by Hadassah, in announc-
ing that $100,000 had been cabled to
Palestine "to provide emergency feed-
ing and to start a long-range program
of education" for the children.

PALESTINE

A second batch of Polish Jewish ref-
ugees, consisting of 233 children and
330 adults, left Teheran by rail for a
port of embarkation en route to Pales-
tine.
Spurred by the adoption of a slogan,
"The Tax of a Fighting Nation," the
Jews of Palestine have extended them-
selves in raising funds for the War
Needs Campaign and have already pro-
vided $800,000 in the first six months of
a drive aiming at $1,000,000 in a year.
A proposal to apply for the largest
loan in the history of the Municipality
of Tel Aviv, $8,000,000 for the develop-
ment of public services, was unanimous-
ly adopted by the Municipal Council.
The Hebrew University will hence-
forth make all types of vaccines for the
Russian and Polish military forces, in
accordance with an agreement here be-
tween the University and the V League
for Russia.

OVERSEAS

Fifty thousand Jews have been de-
ported from France since the Vichy
government launched its policy of de-
portation of the Jews to Eastern Europe,
according to reports reaching London.
Orthodox Jews and "Hassidim" are
included among the "communists" ar-
rested by the Hungarian police for rev-
olutionary activities, according to ac-
counts in the Swedish press. Utterly
ignorant of politics and unaware even of
the meaning of communism, these Jews
are facing court-martial and probable
execution.
Generalissimo Chiang Kai-shek, his
wife and seven of his leading generals
are accused by the Nazi Beobachter im
Asien, Shanghai publication, of having
adopted Judaism.
Severe punishment will be meted out
to Norwegians who are hiding property
belonging to Jews in order to prevent
its confiscation, according to an official
notice issued by the Norwegian govern-
ment."
"The French regime's attitude to-
wards Jews must be changed and the
Hitlerite taint removed," declared
Harold Macmillan, British Minister at
the Allied Headquarters in North
Africa.
Bulgarian pro-Nazis, assisted by the
Gestapo, have launched a new anti-Jew-
ish drive it is learned here. "The Jews
and the pro-Jews-----Roosevelt, Stalin
and Churchill" are being denounced in
thousands of leaflets and newspapers
throughout the country as "the worst
enemies of Bulgaria."
Many offers to give financial assist-
ance and shelter to Jewish refugees,
especially children, from Nazi-occupied
lands have been received by Members of
Parliament from their constituents.
