Clear Picture of Activities There Under
War-Time Conditions

The annual meeting of the Jewish Community Cen-
ter will be held next Thursday evening, in the Center's
Conference Room, Mrs. Samuel R. Glogower, president,
has announced. Renominated to succeed themselves at
the election of officers and board members, scheduled on
the agenda, are Mrs. Glogower, president; Mrs. Joseph

M. Welt, vice-president; H. C.

Community Is Invited
"All adult members of the com-
munity are invited to attend the
annual meeting," stated Mrs.
Glogower. "We urge them to at-
tend so that they may obtain a
clear picture of the functioning
of the Center under war-time con-
ditions. We wish the community
to know of the Center's services
to men in uniform, to whom we
offer the facilities of the entire
building.
"We wish the community to
know. also, of our efforts on be-
half of the many strangers in
the city, young men and women
who spend busy hours in our war
industries, but who find their
leisure hours lonely. At the Cen-
ter, each week, many have found
good companionship.
Common Meeting Place
"In addition, we want the com-
munity to realize that the Cen-
ter has not lost sight of its true
objective of a consciously Jewish
group life, which is properly in-
tegrated in the life of the city
at large. The Center is a Town
Hall, a common meeting place
for all elements and groups, and
a unifying agency through which
the entire Jewish community
may express itself."
The Jewish Community Cen-
ter = is a member of the Jewish
Welfare Federation, the Jewish
Welfare Board and the Detroit
Community Fund, and is a bene-
ficiary of the War Chest of Met-
ropolitan Detroit.

Capt. Israel Wiener, who is
serving with the Medical Corps
of the U. S. Army somewhere in
the southwest Pacific, had the
Jewish National Fund conference
in view when he
wrote his family
on Dec. 27, the
day on which
t h e convention
was in session in
Detroit. His let-
ters reached De-
troit on Jan. 11.
A former presi-
dent of the Jew-
'2ish National
Capt. Israel Fund Council of
Detroit, he had
Wiener
sent his message of greeting to
the conference weeks in advance.
An interesting note in his Dec.
27 letter reads: "On Christmas
Day, at the dinner, the chaplain
was on his circuit of the various
companies, which are spread out.
I was asked to give grace, and I
was the only Jew at the table."
