Yeshivah Announces
Torah Month Plans

Beth Yehudah Sets Feb. 6
to March 7 for Special
Observances

Yeshivah Beth Yehudah will
sponsor a Torah Month during
the period from Saturday, Feb.
6, to Sunday, March 7, which co-
incides with the Hebrew month
of Adar I. During this period
delegations of Yeshivah Beth
Yehudah will visit local syna-
gogues and Jewish communal or-
ganizations to solicit their co-
operation in the work done by
this institution. Leaders of
American Jewry will be invited
to address the public during
this period.
Torah Month will conclude
with a banquet, Sunday evening,
March 7. The banquet will also
mark the first anniversary of the
opening of the new home of the
Yeshivath Beth Yehudah at Dex-
ter and Cortland.
The following members of the
Yeshivah Beth Yehudah board
have been appointed as commit-
tee chairmen to sponsor Torah
Month: Rabbi I. Stollman, syna-
gogues; Rabbi M. J. Wohlgelern.-
ter, publicity; Morris Mohr, jour-
nal; I. Sosnick, organization;
Louis Solai, banquet; David
Cohen, patrons; Charles Gellman,
membership booklets.
Yeshivah Beth Yehudah now
has more than 200 students and
plans to extend its educational
activities by opening additional
classes in the spring. The new
home is already filled to capacity.

David J. Cohen Gives
"Kohen's" Fee to JNF

David J. Cohen, well-known
local attorney who is a former
president of Congregation Bnai
David, has made it a practice to
turn over all funds he receives as
traditional "fees" for acting as
Kohen at a Pidyon Haben to the
Jewish National Fund.
Last week he turned over to
William Hordes, president of the
Jewish National Fund Council, $5
he received as "fee" on Dec. 13
at the Pidyon Haben of Edward
Allen Stahl, son of Mr. and Mrs.

Meyer Beckman, chairman of
the board and former president
of Detroit Mizrachi, issued a
statement in which he declares:
"Never was it more important
than it is today to maintain and
strengthen the Jewish religion
and Zionism. Mizrachi organiza-
tion has participated in all ef-
forts designed to strengthen
Orthodox Judaism including the
furtherance of religious educa-
tion and all activities conduc-
tive to the general welfare of
the Jewish people. It is urgent
that Detroit Jews cooperate by
joining Mizrachi ranks."

"Legend of Moses,"
Rabbi Fram's Topic
At Service Jan. 15

Rabbi Leon Fram will deliver
the fourth in his series of ser-
mons on "The Jewish Soul as Re-
flected in Jewish Legend," next
Friday night, Jan. 15, in the Lec-
ture Hall of the Detroit Institute
of Arts. The theme of this ser-
mon will be "The Personality of
Moses in Jewish Lore and Leg-
end."
Other sermons in this series
will be "The Legends of the
Exodus," "Legends of the Sab-
bath," "Legends of King Solo-
mon," and "Chassidic Lore."
Rabbi Fram plans, upon the
completion of this series of ser-
mons, to publish them in book
form.
The service will be followed
by a social hour, under the spon-
sorship of the Sisterhood of
Temple Israel, and by a Youth
Symposium, under the sponsor-
ship of the Young People's Club
of Temple Israel.
This Friday night, Rabbi Fram
will review Lloyd C. Douglas'
novel on the Crucifixion of Jesus,
"The Robe."
