Betrothed to Ensign

ACTIVITIES IN SOCIETY

Miss Betty Kahn of Lincolnshire Drive has returned from a
two weeks' stay in New York City.

Capt. Ralph Mayer has returned to his post at Wright Field,
Dayton, 0., following a short visit with his brother and sister-in-law,
Dr. and Mrs. Willard Mayer of Boston Blvd.
Mrs. Louis A. Schwartz and her sons, David and Jonathan, have
returned from a 10-day visit with Lieut. Commander Schwartz who
is stationed at Bethesda; Md.
Joan Barker has returned to her home in East Chicago, Ill.
following a 10-day visit with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. David
Oppenheim of Chicago Blvd.

Dr. and Mrs. Samuel L. Goldberg have returned to their home
in Chicago following few days visit with Mrs. Goldberg's brother-
in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Mark Alpern, of Mt. Clements.
. Lieut. Amson Tabor who is serving with the Air Command
has been transferred from Seattle, Wash., to Portland, Ore. Mrs.
Tabor accompanied him.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Rothberg of Chicago Blvd. had as their
guests last week Mr. and Mrs. Jack Miller of Gary, Ind.
Mrs. Lewis B. Daniels returned on Monday from Las Vegas,
N. M., following a two weeks' visit with her husband, Capt. Daniels,
who is stationed at Camp Luna.
Mr. and Mrs. Ivor Kahn of Connecticut Ave. are spending a
week in New York City.
Mrs. Nathan Kaplan of Webb Ave. is spending the winter
months in Tuscon, Ariz.
In celebration of their 25th wedding anniversiary, Mr. and
Mrs. Herman A. Schmier of Santa Barbara Ave. held a reception
for their friends on Wednesday evening, Dec. 30.
Mr. and Mrs. Herman Lewis of Griggs Ave. have returned from
a two weeks' trip to New York City.
Mrs. Leo J. Croll of Fairfield Ave. has returned from Indian-
apolis, Ind. where she has been for the past week visiting with her
husband, Capt. Croll, who is stationed at the Billings Hospital.
Mr. and Mrs. Norman Thal of Toledo spent the last week end in
Detroit as the guests of Mr .and Mrs. John Hopp of Edison Ave.
Miss Freda Rosenthal, who has made her home in New York
City for the past few years, is visiting with her mother Mrs. Moses
Rosenthal of Royal Oak.
Mr. and Mrs. James Stein of Northlawn Ave. are visiting friends
and relatives in Chicago.
Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Deutch of San Juan Drive entertained a
group at a New Year's Eve party in their home.
Among the students returning to the University of Wisconsin
after the holiday vacation were Ruth Welling, Barbara Enggass,
Sherry Brown and Caroyln Davidson.
Hubert Goldman of Fairfield Ave. has returned from Chicago
where he spent a week visiting with friends.
Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Hartman of Broadstreet Ave. had as their
guests last week end Mrs. Hartman's sister, Mrs. Philip Sabel and
her son, Robert, and their father, Max Rosenblum, of Cleveland.
Marvin Gingold of Buffalo, spent the past week end as the
guest of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel H .Rubiner of Muirland, Ave.
Dr. and Mrs. James Rogin of Edison Ave. are spending 10 days
in Washington, D. C.
Complimenting their cousin, Miss Jean Marcus, Mr. Julius
Friedman and Mrs. Harry Wohl entertained at a dinner and miscel-
aneous shower at the Wilshire Hotel on Wednesday evening, Jan. 6.
Mr. and Mrs. Mark Barris and their son, Richard, have returned
to their home in Cleveland following a week's visit with Mrs.
Barris' mother, Mrs. Louis Schlussel, of Chicago Blvd.
Among the students returning to the University of Michigan
following the vacation period were Dan Saulson and Joseph L.
Warner.
Miss Annette Share will return to her post at Chanute Field,
where she is a medical social worker with the Red Cross, on Jan.
11, following a two-weeks' visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Harry Share of Buena Vista Ave.
Mrs. Henry Lipshield of Chicago Blvd. has left for Miami
Beach, Fla where she will spend the winter months.
The Ladies Auxilliary of the East Side Bnai Brith Lodge gave
a New Year's Eve party for their members at the Hotel Savarine.
Lieut. Davis Benson has returned to his post at Station Hospital,
Indiantown Gap Military Reservation, Pa.,
Pa. following a few days
spent with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ben
of Calvert Ave.
Eugene Friedman completed his officers' training course at Fort
Sills, Lawton, Okla. on Thursday, and has been commissioned a
second lieutenant. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Julius Friedman of
Ilene Ave., are expecting him home this week-end on a brief leave.

VHS Women to Hear
Philip Adler Jan. 14

The Woman's Auxiliary of the
United Hebrew School will meet
Thursday, Jan. 14, at 2 P. M., in
the auditorium of the Rose Sittig
Cohen Building.
The guest speaker will be
Philip Adler, correspondent and
noted feature writer of the De-
troit News, who has traveled ex-
tensively and has first hand inforr
mation about many countries.
Plans for the 11th annual don-
or luncheon have been completed.
The entertainment part of the
luncheon will include vocal se-
lections by Marguerite Kozen,
with Julius Chajes at the piano.
Mrs. Alex Roberg, of the Hebrew
Schools' staff, is training a group
of boys and girls to sing Hebrew
songs at this event.
The Woman's Auxiliary is re-
sponsible for the maintenance of
the bus system of the United
Hebrew Schools, but it does not
confine all its activities to fund-
raising. It conducts monthly ed-
ucational meetings and partici-
pates in other activities of the
schools.
Mrs. Jack Tobin is president
of the Woman's Auxiliary. Mrs.
Max Hyman is chairman of the
donor luncheon. Mrs. Herman
Wetsman, chairman of memor-
iams, is assisted by Mesdames
Julius Berman and Isaac Shetzer.

Traurig-Ravet: Ethel Ravet,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Max
Ravet of Gladstone Ave., was
married to Simon D. Traurig,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Trau-
rig of Twelfth St., on Sunday,
Jan. 3. The marriage service was
read at Pereira's by Rabbi Morris
Adler.
Mrs. Albert Ziff of Camp
Crowder, Miss., was the matron
of honor. The bridesmaids were
Misses Mildred Borak and Tillie
Topper.
Moe Traurig acted as best man,
with Manuel Ravet and Morris
Arkin as ushers.
Dinner and reception followed
the ceremony.

gation Shaarey Zedek will hold
its annual musicale membership

social hall of the synagogue.

The ceremony, which was at-
tended by over 200 people, was
performed by Rabbi Samuel Mo-
gill, after "Oh Promise Me" was
sung by Julius Neidorf. About
500 people were at the reception.
