War- Efforts

Detroit's Jewish women's organizations have shown
keen interest in community war efforts, it was reported
this week by Jack Spencer, Michigan area director for
the National Jewish Welfare Board. Mr. Spencer stated
that the following organizations have made contributions
to the USO and have participated in the program of the
Army and Navy Committee of the Jewish Welfare Board:
Rodin Club, Home Relief Society, Rosen Club, East
Side Bnai Brith Women's Auxiliary, Zedakah Club,
Pisgah Auxiliary of Bnai Brith, Social Credit Group,
Congregation Beth Abraham Ladies' Aid, Pinsker Pro-

The home of Mrs. Max Kogan of Cambridge Road was beauti-
fully decorated when 50 intimate friends gathered at a luncheon on
Dec. 19 to compliment the bride-elect, Miss Betty Elaine Davis,
whose wedding to Joseph Allender will be an event of Dec. 26 at
Hotel Statler. The hostesses with Mrs. Kogan were Mrs. Harry Cog-
gan, Mrs. Bernard Korner, Mrs. Al Weisman and Mrs. Harry M.
Shulman. Mrs. David Kallman, assisted at the piano by Miss Ruth
Kogan, rendered a musical program. Miss Davis is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Davis and Mr. Allender is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Ruby Allender.

Dr. and Mrs. Leo M. Franklin of Edison Ave. have as • their
guest, for the vacation period, their granddaughter, Miss Mary
Frieda Einstein of Blairsville, Pa.

Mr. and Mrs. Max Herstein have returned to their home in
Akron, 0., following a week's visit with Mrs. Herstein's mother,
Mrs. Ida Blum of the Belcrest Hotel.
Mrs. Fred A. Ginsburg of Chicago Blvd. left on Monday to
spend a week with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis
J. Ruskin of Washington, D. C. Her daughter, Miss Mignon Gins-
burg, will have as her guest during the vacation week Miss Caroline
Buhai of Winnettka, Ill., who is expected to arrive on Sunday.

Mr. and Mrs. Julian G. Wolfner of Burlington Rd. have returned
from a two weeks' trip to New York City. Their daughter, Isabel,
had as her guests the past week Edith Levkoff and her brother,
Henry, of New York City, and Abner Levkoff of Charleston, S. C.
On Saturday Isabel and Sally Brown, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Douglas I. Brown of Chicago Blvd., will leave for Milwaukee,
where they will visit with friends for a week.

Mrs. Nate S. Shapero and her daughter, Mary Ann, of Strath.,
cona Drive, will leave on Sunday for Chicago, where they will visit
with Mrs. Shapero's father, Abel Bernsteine.

Dene Laib, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Laib of Strathcona
Drive, has as her guest during the vacation week Rochelle Levin of
Indiana Harbor, Ind.

Mr. and Mrs. Roger Ettlinger of Pennington Drive have as their
guests their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Ettlinger of Chicago.

Suzanne Dreifus, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Dreifus of
BirChcrest Drive, will leave on Saturday for Rockford, Ill., where
she will be the guest of Joan Baer.
Miss Harriet Simons of Duluth, Minn., is. spending the week in
Detroit visiting with friends.

Miss Barbara Enggass, a student at the University of Wisconsin,
is spending her vacation with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Maurice
Enggass of Cumberland Way.

Wallace E. Saltzstein of Milwaukee is spending part of his va-
cation from Yale University as the guest of his uncle and aunt,
Mr. and Mrs. Hershel V. Kreger of Wildemere Ave.
Mrs. Louis Friedman left for her home in St. Louis on Monday
following a month's visit with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and
Mrs. Jack Rothberg of Chicago Blvd. Her son, Lieut. Henry T.
Friedman, returned to his post with the U. S. Army Medical Corps
at Presque Isle, Maine, after a five-day furlough spent with his
family.
Miss Jeannette Caplan of Whitmore Road left on Thursday to
spend a week in New York City as the guest of her brother and
sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Julian Caplan.

Dr. and Mrs. Peter M. Bernstein have moved from Chicago
Blvd. and are now residing at 2314 Boston Blvd. Their son, Aleck
Block, has just completed his officer's training course at Quantico,
Va., and has been commisisoned a second lieutenant with the Ma-
rines. Their daughter, Jacklyn, and Marilyn Grosslight, daughter of
Mrs. Mae Grosslight of Collingwood Ave., will be joint hostesses
at a dancing party to be given at the Bernstein home on Dec. 30.
Miss Clarice Freud of Whitmore Road is visiting her brother,
Lieut. Henry Freud, who is stationed at Raritan Arsenal, N. J.
Home from the University of Michigan for the holiday vacation
are Stanley Winkelman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leon Winkelman of
Fairfield Ave., and Cornell Janeway, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert
Janeway of Canterbury Road.
Mrs. A. Joseph Himelhoch, her daughter, Martha, and her sons,
Ralph and Jonathon, will leave on Friday for Kansas City, Mo.,
where they will visit with Capt. Himelhoch, who is stationed at
O'Reilly General Hospital. •
Spending their two weeks' vacation from Morgan Park Military
School in Chicago with their families are Ralph Schiller, son of
Mrs. Ralph Schiller of Chicago Blvd., and Ronald Rothstein, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Rothstein of Calvert Ave.
Mr. and Mrs. David Oppenheim of Chicago Blvd. returned on
Monday from Chicago, where they visited with their children. Mr.
and Mrs. Harold Barker, and their son, Pvt. Edwin Openheim,
who is stationed with the Medical Corps at Camp Grant, Rockford,
Ill.
