A day will come when the
only battlefield will be the mar-
ket open to commerce, and the
mind opening to new ideas. A
day will come when bullets and
bombshells will be replaced by
votes, by the universal suffrage
of nations, by arbitration of a
sovereign senate, which will be
to Europe what the Parliament
is to England . .
A day will come when a can-
non ball will be exhibited in
public museums, just as an in-
strument of torture is now, and
the people will be astonished
how such a thing could have
been. A day will come when
these two immense groups, the
United States of America and
the United States of Europe
shall be, seen extending the hand
of fellowship across the ocean,
exchanging their products, their
industry, their arts, their genius
clearing the earth peopling the
desert, improving creation under
the eye of the Creator and un-
iting for the good of all these
two irresistible and infinite
powers, the fraternity of men
and the power of God. .

Describes Importance of Na-
tional Conference Here,
December 26-27
By WILLIAM HORDES
President, - Jewish National Fund
Council of Detroit
.The Detroit Jewish community
is highly privileged to act as host
to the conference of the Jewish
National Fund of America, to be
held at the Book Cadillac Hotel
on Dec. 26 and 27.
This is a great occasion for our
community. First in every Jew-

struction effort,
Detroit holds the
enviable post of
being second

etz Israel.
Therefore, when we all go to
the Book Cadillac Hotel during
the next week-end we will be
expressing the community's joy
for liberality and devotion which
does us credit.
But our work has only begun.
We must do our due share for
the Jewish National Fund loan.
We must complete the Forests we
have begun to plant in Zion. We
must provide more land reserves
so that more and more pioneers
may be settled in the Jewish Na-
tional Home when the war comes
to an end and the great job of
reconstruction begins.
In Detroit, we should proceed
to complete the Joseph H. Ehr-
lich Forest and should as speedily
as possible secure the balance of
the fund necessary to complete
the Fred M. Butzel Forest. We
should raise as large a sum as
possible towards the Jewish Na-
tional Fund $2,500,000 loan.
I am happy, as president of the
Jewish National Fund Council of
Detroit, to extend greetings to all
the visiting delegates and to ex-
press my thanks to all my co-
workers and to all Jewish organ-
izations in Detroit for their co-
operation in planning this great
convention. May it bring the
great - results that are necessary
for victory and freedom.
