Frarn to Give Third
Sermon on Folklore

Rabbi Adler to Review
Hadassah Book Dec. 18

"The Legend of Joseph" will be
the subject of Rabbi Leon Fram's
sermon at the Sabbath Eve serv-
ices of Temple Israel Friday, Dec.
18, at 8:30 p. m., in the Institute
of Arts lecture hall. This is his
third sermon on "Jewish Folk-
lore as a Mirror of the Jewish
Soul."
The first-two sermons were on
Abraham and the folklore of the
Patriarchs and Matriarchs. Fu-
ture titles will be, "The Epic of
Moses," and • "The . Legendary
Wisdom of Solomon."
Karl W. Haas will be at the
console of the new Louis Frank-
enstein memorial organ. Cantor
Robert S. Tulman will sing the
traditional Sabbath melodies.
The Religious School of Temple
Israel will observe a winter va-
cation. Sessions will be resumed
Saturday, Jan. 9, and Sunday,
Jan. 10.
Rabbi Fram, on Friday night,
Dec. 11, will review the book,
"Sabotage", written by Albert E.
Kahn of Detroit and Michael
Sayres.

Will Unveil Yeshivath
Beth Yehudah Tablet

The donors of the building fund
of Yeshivath Beth Yehudah will
gather for the unveiling of the
donors' and memorial tablet on
Sunday, at 12 noon. A luncheon
will be served by the Ladies'
Auxiliary of Yeshivath Beth
Yehudah.
Rabbi Katz of Toledo will be
the guest speaker. Isador Sosnick,
chairman of the finance and bud-
get committee, will be. toast- .
master.

Cantor Katzman's Concirt a
Success

A large crowd attended the
Hanukah concert given for the
benefit of Yeshivath Beth Yehu-
dah last Sunday evening in Con-
gregation Bnai Moshe. Adolph
Beck, president of Bnai Moshe,
opened the program with a brief
talk.
Cantor Katzman and his choir,
directed by Nate Turbofsky, ren-
dered a program of liturgical and
Jewish songs which was enthu-
siastically received.

Dr. Crane to Speak
At Bnai David Dec. 18

A Brotherhood program will
be presented at the Friday gath-
ering of Congregation Bnai David,
Elmhurst and 14th Sts., on Dec.
18.
Dr. Henry Hitt Crane will be
the guest speaker. Rabbi Joshua
S. Sperka and Cantor Moshe
Gordon will participate in the
program. A social hour will fol-

Hike Sunday Afternoon

Congregation Shaarey Zedek's
Young People's Society will have
a hike beginning at 1 p. in. on
Sunday, starting at the Lawton-
Rochester entrance of the syna-
gogue, and proceeding to a sur-
prise destination. In the event

The Sisterhood of Congrega-
tion Shaarey Zedek will meet
Monday at 12:30 p.m. in the soc-
ial hall of the synagogue. A
dessert luncheon will precede the
meeting. Rabbi Morris Adler will
be the guest speaker and Cantor
J. H. Sonenklar will sing several
selections. Mrs. Samson S. Wit
tenberg will lead in group sing-
ing.

Ethel Mendelson Joins
Music Forum Faculty

Ethel Goldman Mendelson, pia-
nist and teacher, has become a
member of the Music Forum fac-
ulty. Mrs. Mendelson is vice-
president of the Music Study
Club. She studied in New York
with Edwin Hughes, and former-
ly was on the facutly of the
Ganapol School, from which she
was graduated.

50,000 Bnai Brith
Women Will Push
War Job Recruiting

CHICAGO: — Recognizing the
urgency of mobilizing Jewish
women and girls for the battle
of production, the Women's Su-
preme Council of Bnai Brith, at
its third annual meeting here,
called on the 500 units of Bnai
Brith women and girls through-
out the country to set aside
February as "Victory Through
Womanpower Month." The 50,-
000 Bnai Brith members will
take the initiative in stimulating
community efforts to recruit
Jewish women and girls not now
in the labor market for war in-
dustry jobs, in areas where
there are now or are soon likely
to be labor shortages.
Mrs. Maurice Turner, Chicago,
a former president of Women's
Grand Lodge No. 6, was elected
the second president of the Wo-
men's Supreme Council of Bnai
Brith, succeeding Mrs. Lenore
Underwood of San Francisco,
who was elected councilor.

Altar Presented
To Pisgah Lodge

Jamboree Saturday

Pisgah Lodge No. 34 of Bnai
Brith was presented with an altar
by the Soft Ball League of Pis-
gah Bowling League at its meet-
ing last Monday night. Harry
Schwartz, president of Pisgah
Soft Ball League, made the pres-
entation speech and it was ac-
cepted by the lodge's president,
Rudolph Meyersohn.
Rabbi Morris Adler of Con-
gregation Shaarey Zedek deliv-
ered an address on the signifi-
cance of Hanukah. Aaron Droock
also spoke. Louis Greenblatt
kindled the Hanukah lights and
rendered several selections.
Max Goldhoff, chairman of
Pisgah's war service committee,
reports that a large amount of
Bonds and Stamps were sold at
this meeting.

Forty uniformed men will • be
the guests of the Bnai Brith Hil-
lel Foundation of the University
of Michigan at the Week-end
jamboree, starting Saturday. Sol-
diers will be present from Fort
Custer. Members of the Michigan
State Hillel Extension will also
be guests.
Grace Freudberg, Harry Mill-
er, Charlotte Kaufman, Herbert
Levin have planned the event.
Included in plans for this event
are meals and lodgings for men
in the service at fraternities on
the campus. Henrietta Browarsky
of the Hillel USO committee has
made these arrangements.

Aged Jew to Die
For Storing Arms

At last Sabbath's service of
the Junior Congregation of
Shaarey Zedek, 20 boys and girls
were presented with membership
cards by Rabbi Morris Adler.
The Junior Congregation is
planning a service in the main
auditorium of the synagogue.
At the Sabbath morning serv-
ice Dec. 12, Myron Rosenthal will
act as cantor, and Robert Kasle
will serve as Baal Koreh. A res-
ume of the Sedra of the week
will be given by Leah Crohn, and
the outline of the Haftorah will
be given by Rita Cohn. Marcia
Tobin wil lead the congregation
in the recitation of the Ashrey.
A Hanukah party will be spon-
sored by the Junior Congrega-
tion at 5 P. M. Sunday in the
synagogue's social hall.
