Foster's "Jeanie"
To Be Presented

Lillian Beal Hicks, Detroit% so-
prano and actress, will present
Stephen Foster's "Jeanie" at the
meeting of the Sisterhood of
Temple Beth El, Monday, Dec.
14, at 2 p. m., in Brown Chapel.
In her interpretation, Miss
Hicks portrays the married life
of Stephen Foster and his
"Jeanie of the light brown hair".
The play is written in five
scenes and is given with mu-
sical accompaniment.
Of special interest will be the
presence of Mrs. Alfred Worn-
eweck, niece of Stephen Foster,
who is a Detroiter. Mrs. Worn-
eweck has given Miss Hicks
much authentic information that
has been included in the sketch.
The meeting, for members on-
ly, will be preceded by a' des-
sert luncheon, at 1:30 p. in., in
the social hall of the Temple.
Mrs. Henry Meyers is president
of the Sisterhood and Mrs. Mor-
ris Rand is program chairman.
The program committee includes
Mesdames -Arthur Bloom, Max
Field, Amy Gaines, Fred Gins-
burg, Theodore Kelter, Philip
Mar cuse, Merrill Silverstein;
Harold Smilay, Gerald Spero,
Mayer Sutzburger, Melville Welt,
James Wineman and Oscar Ze-
mon.

Mrs. Adler to Speak
To JiMior Hadassah

Junior Hadassah will hold its
monthly meeting at the Statler
Hotel on Sunday at 2:30 p. m.
Mrs. Morris Adler will be guest
speaker and Miss Pearl Bean, re-
cent scholarship winner at the
Julliard School of Music, will be
the soloist.
Miss Ann Baker, president of
the Detroit Unit, will report on
the national convention of Junior
Hadassah held in New York last
week.
Miss Virginia Brand, fund rais-
ing - chairman, will outline plans
for the donor luncheon to be held
in February. The honor of being
"Queen of Junior Hadassah" at
the donor luncheon will go to the
girl who raises the most money
for the luncheon. Runners-up in
the contest will be named
"Ladies-in-Waiting."
All girls 18 years of -age and
older are urged to attend the
meeting Sunday.

of Chicago Blvd. lefts on. Monday for Los Angeles, Calif., where
they will spend the winter months.
Mr. and Mrs. Sheldon Ackerman have returned to their home
in Lima, 0., following, a few days' visit in Detroit with relatives.
Captain Lewis B. Daniels has returned to his post at Camp Luna
in Las Vegas; N. M., following a 10-day furlough spent with Mrs.
Daniels -and the children.
Mrs. Mildred B. Lester of Web.b Ave. has returned from Los
Angeles where she has been visiting - for the past month. Her son,
Pvt. William Lester, is stationed at San Luis Obispo, Calif.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Helper of Parkside Ave. had as their guests
the past week-end Mr. and Mrs. Norman Thal of Toledo.
Mrs. Louis Smilansky of Burns Drive has returned from
Petoskey, Mich., where she spent a week visiting with her family.
Major and Mrs. Ervin Grennbaum of Leslie Ave: returned on
Sunday, Dec. 6, from a few days' stay in New York. -
Mrs. Harry Stocker of Devonshire Ave. entertained a group
of friends at a luncheon at her home last Saturday.
Mr. and Mrs. Hyman A. Kramer have moved from the Bel-
crest Hotel and are now residing at 19597 Roslyn Ave.
Mr. and Mrs. Louis Goldenberg of Glynn Ct. have returned
from Cleveland where they spent a few days visiting with rela-
tives.
- Complimenting Miss Betty Jane Felsat, a bride elect, Mrs.
Norman Rader, Mrs. Eugene Klein and Mrs. Bernard Schmidt
entertained at a dinner and shower at Schiff & Moss' on Joy Road
on Nov. 30. •
Mr. and Mrs. Herman Kart of McGraw Ave. celebrated their
25th anniversary last Sunday, at Northwood Inn. It was a double
celebration, marking also the marriage of their niece, Mrs. Ben-
jamin Feldman (Edythe Ruth Cohen).
Mrs. Rose Rubenstein will present Stanleigh Goldberg, 11 years
old, in a piano recital on Dec. 18, at 8 p. m. at the Rubenstein
Piano Studios. Eada Rubenstein, whose two compositions are also
included in the program, will assist at the second piano.
Warrant- Officer Ben Rubens and Mrs. Rubens have returned
to Brighton, Mass., where Mr. Rubens is stationed with the U. S.
Coast Artillery, after spending his furlough with his sister, Mrs;
Ann Averbuch.

annual banquet will be held this
Sunday at Mishkan Igrael Hall,
Linwood and Blaine. For reser-

Music Study Club
Picks Seymour Lipkin
As Concert Artist

Seymour Lipkin, 15-year-old
pianist, son of Dr. and Mrs. Ezra
Lipkin, has been selected as
the young musician to be
presented in annual concert -this
year by the Music Study Club.
The event will be held Jan. 3 at
the Detroit Institute of Art. Mrs.
Edith Sauls is chairman of the
committee on arrangements.
