pose of anti-Semitism and the
.Nazi-Fascist elements in this
country, -written by Albert E.
Kahn, son of the late Morritz
Kahn and a nephew of Albert
Kahn, in collaboration with
Michael Sayers, will be reviewed
by Rabbi Leon Fram in his ser-
mon at the Friday evening serv-
ices at Temple Israel on Dec. 11,
in the Lecture Hall of the De-
troit Institute of Arts.
Rabbi Fram - hos chosen this
book as his pulpit topic at the
request of Temple Israel Sister-
hood, before whom he had re-
viewed the book at the Novem-
ber meeting. The ladies found
the review instructive and re-
quested that Rabbi Pram present
it at a Sabbath Eve service so
that the general public might
have the opportunity to hear it.
The service will be followed
by a social hour, sponsored by
the Sisterhood.
The Young People's Club will
hold a youth symposium after
the service on the subject of the
book.
"Share the Ride Plan"
The Men's Club of Temple
Israel has organized a "Share the
Ride" plan to enable members
of Temple Israel to attend all
Friday night services and to
bring the children to sessions of
the Religious School.

Sisterhood Symposium Dec. 14

The Sisterhood of Temple Is-
rael will hold a War Effort Sym-
posium on Monday, Dec. 14.
Among the projects to be dis-
cussed will be Red Cross work,
USO work, Civilian Defense,
Blood • Bank, Salvage, Rumor
Clinic and Consumer Coopera-
tion. Participants will include
Mesdames Maxwell Emmer, Syd-
ney Imerman, Harry L. Jackson,
Reuben Kaltman, Jerome Kanter,
Sam Linden, Abe Schmerin, My-
ron Steinberg and Morris Wayne.
A dessert luncheon will pre-
cede the symposium. Cantor
Robrt Tulman will participate in
the musical program and will be
accompanied by Rosa Bassin
Stein.
Mrs. Bayre Levin, president,
extends an invitation to members
and friends to attend this event.

Yeshivah to Conduct
Public Examinations

Rabbi M. Fischer, chairman of
the Board of Education, an-
nounces the public bi-annual ex-
aminations of Yeshivath Beth
Yehudah, to be held Sunday, 9:30
a. m. to 12:30 p. m., and on Mon-
day and Tuesday, 4:30 to 7:45
p. m. All 11 grades of the Yes-
31-iivah will be examined during
these days. The schedule of the
individual examinations has been
sent to parents and officers. On
each examination day at least one
of the Talmud classes taught by
Rabbis Weiss, Ungar and Carle-
bach will be examined, in addi-
tion to the three preparatory
classes. The public is invited.

Hapoel Hamizrachi
Selects Officers.

Under the leadership of Dr.
J. G. Heller, executive secretary
of Hapoel Harnizrachi of Ameri-
ca, plans are being made here
for the organization of youth
groups and to conduct a drive
for funds. Dr. Simon Feder--
buscia, national president, is ex-
pected on a visit in Detroit soon.

Junior Congregation
At Shaarey Zedek

The board of the Junior Con-
gregation of Shaarey Zedek has
entered a new year of service un-
der the sponsorship of Philip Ro-
senthal, and the supervision of
the Junior Congregation Commit-
tee composed of Isaac Shetzer,
Mr. Rosenthal, and the former
sponsor, Abraham Gordon.
Services of the Junior Congre-
gation are conducted by mem-
bers.
Officers and members of the
board were elected as follows:
Sanford Perlis, president; Harold
Berry, vice-president; Ethel Le-
vine, secretary; Myron Rosenthal,
treasurer; Morton Zieve, Robert
Kasle, Miriam Levin, Melvin
Markowitz, Sheldon Lutz, Joyce
Pensler, Fayette Singer, Leah
Crohn and Sander Bernstein.
An entertainment committee
was formed and plans were made
for a Hanukah entertainment and
a Purim dance.
The membership committee has
begun a new drive for members.

Glazer to Review
Josephson's 'Hugo'

For his fifth lecture in the
World Affairs Book Review
Course, Dr. B. Benedict Glazer
has selected "Victor Hugo" by
Matthew Josephson. These book
reviews are held every Tuesday
morning at 10:30 in the Brown
Memorial Chapel at Temple Beth
El and are given under the aus-
pices of the Temple Sisterhood.
Dr. Glazer will. conclude the
series on Tuesday morning, Dec.
15.
Attendance at these lectures is
open to the public.

First Hebrew Congregation of
Delray on Sunday evening com-
bined installation of its new
spiritual leader, Rabbi Harry A.
Greenfield, with installation of
officers of the synagogue and the
Ladies' Auxiliary.
Leo Feder installed the new
rabbi and was chairman of the
evening and dinner programs.
In his speech of acceptance,
Rabbi Greenfield, who succeeded
his brother, Rabbi Harry A.
Greenfield, to this post, empha-
sized the need for unmitigated
work to speed victory for the
United Nations and to strengthen
religious feeling among Amer-
ican Jews.
Guest speaker at the dinner
was Rabbi Greenfield's brother-
in-law, Rabbi Sandor Engel of
Duluth, Minn., who urged whole-
hearted cooperation for the new
rabbi. Rabbi Greenfield was or-
dained in Hungary. His brother
is now engaged in war work.
Officers of the congregation
are: Sam Klein, re-elected presi-
dent; William B. Stearn, vice.,
president; Louis Tischler, finan-
cial secretary; Joseph Rosen-
berger, recording seer e t a r y;
David Lang, treasurer; Leo Fed-
er, president of Chevra Kadisha.
The Ladies' Auxiliary officers
are: Mrs: Clara Lebovits, presi-
dent; Mesdames William B. Stern
and Louis Rosenthal, vice-presi-
dents; Mrs. Philip Schwartz,
financial secretary; Mrs. Leo
Feder, recording secretary; Mrs.
Sam. Cohen, treasurer.

Dr. Glazer to Speak
On `Jews Under Nazis'

"Jews Under the Nazi Terror"
will be the subject of Dr. B.
Benedict Glazer's lecture at the
Sabbath Eve services of Temple
Beth El on Friday, Dec. 11, 8:15.
In his lecture, Dr. Glazer will
discuss the implications of hope-
ful manifestations that will help'
relieve, to some extent, the deep
mourning that has enshrouded
the household of Israel since the
Nazis have initiated the policy
of mass extermination of the
Jews in Europe.

Due to gasoline rationing and
in order to allow more time to
members residing a distance
from the Temple, the time of
Sabbath Eve Worship has been
changed from 8 to 8:15.

Rabbi Adler to Speak on
"World's Crucial Places"

will be the guest speaker, and
Jack Schnider will be toast-
master: The invocation will be
given by George Dickstein. Other
participants will include:

president of the. Sisterhood; Na-
than Finkelstein, president of the
board. of education; Rev. 0. H.
Hood, president of the Ministerial
Association 'of Flint; Ben Kras-
ner, commander of Jewish War
Veterans; Dr. M. H. Golden, presi-
dent of Bnai Brith; Israel .Zendler
and Mrs. Louis Lebster, repre-
senting men's and women's Zion-
ist groups; Donald Nover,
speaking for youth groups; Mrs.
Joseph J. Smith, general chair-
man of the affair; Sidney
Schwartz, Hebrew teacher and
director of the choir.
Rabbi Fineberg came to Flint
in September, 1932, after two
years of study at the Universal
Theological School and the
Hebrew University in Palestine.
A graduate of the Hebrew Theo-
logical College of Chicago, Rabbi
Fineberg was also ordained (re-
ceived his Smicha) from the late
Rabbis A. I. Kook and M. M.
Epstein of Palestine. His first
pulpit, which he held for three
years, was in Evansville, Ind.
Under his leadership, Congre-
gation Beth Israel, its religious
school and affiliated organizations
made marked progress. Rabbi
Fineberg is active in civic affairs,
is chief zone warden and a di-
rector of the Flint War Chest.
He is chaplain of Jewish War
Veterans' post, president of the
Jewish National Fund Council, a
Bnai Brith trustee, vice-president
of Michigan Synagogue Confer-
ence and is active in American
Jewish Congress.

Rabbi Morris Adler will speak
on the subject "Crucial Places in
the World" at the Friday eve-
ning services of Shaarey Zedek
on Dec. 11.
This Friday night, Rabbi Adler
will deliver a Hanukah address
on the subject "The Eternal Chal-
lenge of Israel."
Cantor Jacob T3. Sonenklar and
his choir render the musical por-
tions of Shaarey Zedek services
to which all are invited.

Psychiatrist to Talk
On Problems of War

Capt. Leonard M. Rittenberg,
psychiatrist at Station Hospital,
Selfridge Field, will address the
Friday night gathering of Con-
gregation Bnai David, Elmhurst
and 14th, Dec. 11, at 8:30 p.
on "SOme Problems of this War."
Special prayers will be recited
for the victory of the United Na-
tions and for the President.
Names of members serving in
the armed forces of the United
States will be mentioned in a spe-
cial prayer.
Cantor M. 13. Gordon will con-
duct 'the musical portion of the
program. .A social hour will fol-
low. All are welcome.
