Violinist at Farband Concert

`Verdict' to Open

City-wide interest is being shown in the concert to be
presented at the Masonic Temple on Sunday evening, Nov.
29, by Bronislaw Huberman, world famous violinist, and
Emma Shever, popular Detroit soprano.
Sponsored by the Council of Detroit branches of the
Jewish National Workers' Alliance, proceeds of this

concert will go towards fulfillincx
the local quota for the Farband'
colony to be established on land
of the Jewish National. Fund' in

Harry Schumer heads the com-
mittee in charge, and tickets may
be secured from him, from all
members of the Farband and at
Grinnell's.

Mr. Huberman's fame was in-
creased during the last month as
a result of two appearances he
made in New York. After his
concert at Carnegie Hall recently,
the New York Times music critic
Olin Downes, spoke of his per-
formance as being that of "a
great musician absorbed in his
message and on fire with its
meaning.

"He seized and impressed the •
listener by the classic proportion
and beauty of his conceptions,
and the vitality of his spirit in
presenting familiar masterpieces,
in a way not soon to be forgot-
ten."

HALEVY TO HAVE SOCIAL
NOV. 28 AT BNAI DAVID
President Morris Shatzen an-
nounced to Halevy members at
the Tuesday rehearsal that prep-
arations are under way for a so-
cial gathering for members and
friends, on Saturday evening,
Nov. 28, at the Bnai David, Elm-
hurst and 14th.
The Halevy chorus has been
rehearsing Tuesday evenings
under the direction of Dan Froh-
man in preparation for its 18th
annual concert, tentatively sched-
uled for April. The feature of
this concert will be the famous
oratorio "Tzvei Brider", written
by Jacob Schaefer to the- words
of the poem by I. L. Peretz.
All who would like to be-
come members of the Halevy and
sing in the next concert should
come to Central High School,
Room 317, next Tuesday at 9
p. m., when applicants for mem-
bership will be given auditions.

Thursday night (Thanksgiving
Day), with the presentation of
"The Verdict," by Sofia Levin-
tana.
Abraham Littman, manager of
the theater, stated this week that
he was especially pleased to be
able to enlist the coopration of
an outstanding cast for the
season.

Gersten, 'two of the outstanding
actors on the Yiddish stage, will
be supported by M. Bozhek,
Misha Fishzon, Jacob Mestel,
Julius Adler, Helen Blain, Leah
Naomi, Mrs. Bozhek and M. Novi-
chalsky.
"The Verdict" also will be
staged Sunday matinee and - eve-
ning, Nov. 29.
Mr. Littman stated that only
top ranking productions will be
brought to his theater this season.
Tickets for the Mizrachi Wo-
men's benefit performance ori-
ginally scheduled for Nov. 22 will
be good on Sunday, Nov. 29.
Tickets originally issued for the
Beth Yehudah Synagogue benefit
on Nov. 29 will be honored on
