Jewish parents were deported
from unoccurtied France to the
east, will be on its way to the
United States within the next
two weeks, it was learned here,
as preparations were completed
for the departure of a ship from
Lisbon. The Day reported that
35 Americans, including doctors
and nurses, are leaving the

U. S. Troops in Palestine
LONDON (JTA)—The arrival
of American troops in Palestine
and Syria to reinforce the Brit-
ish garrisons there was reported
here this week. The Jewish pop-
ulation in Palestine gave the
Americans a rousing welcome. It
is assumed that the American
military units will be stationed
for a time in the vicinity of Haifa
and Jerusalem.
The news of American armed
forces landing in Palestine co-
incided with publication of the
news of Hitler's demand that
Britain surrender Palestine and
Syria to Germany. This demand
was made as part of the "peace
proposal" which Rudolph Hess
carried to England when he land-
ed there in May, 1941, Sis Patrick
Dollan, former mayor of Glas-
gow, revealed in the London
press.

Fascists Arrest Jews
CAIRO (JTA)—With the Axis ,
armies routed and fleeing across
the sands of Libya in a desperate
attempt to escape annihilation by
the Allied forces, the Rome radio
announced that "as a matter of
precaution" all Jewish men in
Tripoli, between 17 and 42 years
of age, are being hurried from
that Libyan city to a concentra-
tion camp in the desert.
In making this announcement,
the Rome radio charged the ap-
proximately 15,000 Jews in Trip-
oli with "pro-British sentiments."
Jewish women and children in
Tripoli were placed under a
special curfew, prohibiting them
to leave their homes between 6
P. M. and dawn.
The Ronie announcement is
taken here to indicate that mil-
itary authorities. in Italy are
afraid that the British armed
forces in Egypt will continue
their victorious offensive far into
Libya.

NEW YORK (JPS)—A nation-

Community Council, as the de-
mocratically-constituted, policy-
making body, is enabled to keep
its finger on the pulse of corn-
munity needs. Under' the impact
of honest criticism, constructive
suggestions and demands, and in-
dications of needs, the Commun-
ity Council becomes compelled to
retain its dynamism and prevent
obsolescence in its ideas and pro-
grams.

"Thus, the creation of a richer
community life, the strengthening
of Jewish values, the defense of
Jewish dignity can become truly
an expression of the community
as a whole, irrespective of other
doctrinal differences.

"We look forward to a large
attendance of both delegates and
individuals from the community
at large. The fullest participa-
tion by the audience as well as
the discussants is urgently de-
sired. Only through such an ex-
change of opinion can the Corn-
munity Council be a truly dem-
ocratic instrument."

Dr. Franklin is Keynoter

A keynote address by Dr. Leo
M. Franklin on the subject, "Dig-
nity, Democracy, Discipline in
Jewish Communal Life," will
open the sessions at 1:45 P. M.
This will be followed by two
round table discussions on "Corn-
munity Relations," and "Internal
Jewish Relations," .under the
leadership of Rabbis Leon Fram
and Morris Adler. A "self-criti-
cism session" at 5:15 P. M., and
a business session at 6 P. M. will
be followed by a kosher-catered
dinner. Spokesmen for American
Jewish Committee, American
Jewish Congress, Bnai Brith and
