HubermanConcert
Committee Named

Bronislaw Huberman's forth-
coming appearance in Detroit, in
a concert at the Masonic Temple
on Nov. 29, under the auspices of
the City Committee of the Jew-
ish National Workers' Alliance,
is arousing wide interest.
Emma Shever, who has gained
fame throughout the land and in
Palestine as a concert soprano,
will be Mr. Huberman's assisting
artist.
Mr. Huberman, one of the out-
standing violinists in the world,
was the founder of the Palestine
Symphony Orchestra. His ap-
pearance in Carnegie Hall, New
York, last week was acclaimed
by critics and his performance
was praised as brilliant.
The Nov. 29 concert is planned
by a committee consisting of
Harry Schumer, chairman; Ben-
jamin Laikin, David Sheraga and
Benjamin Rosenthal, vice-chair-
men; Morris L. Schaver, chair-
man of the music committee;
Morris Kramer, recording secre-
tary; Harry Mondry, correspond-
ing secretary; Nathan Linden,
treasurer; David Sislin and Wil-
liam Hordes, publicity; executive
committee, Alex Belkin, Mau-
rice Gelfand, Morris Glass, Isaac
Zemel, Mrs. Y. Kanat, Samuel
Kane, Berl Kumove, Max Levi,
Isaac Liebson, Max Lieberman,
Morris Lieberman, Abraham

Dr. Fuller is Adviser
Of Avukah at U. of M.

The University of Michigan
chapter of Avukah is active with
a program of varied activities. A
picnic on Oct. 18 and a business
meeting on Oct. 24 opened the
year's sessions.
Elyse Gitlow of New York was
elected treasurer; Netta Siegel
of Shaker Heights, 0., social
chairman; Paul Mishkin, mem-
bership chairman; Melvin Perl-
man, telephone squad.
Dr. Max Dresden has been
named faculty advisor of the U.
of M. Avukah.
Last Sunday night, Prof. Rich-
ard Fuller addressed the group
on "Fascism and Anti-Semitism."
On Nov. 8, a morning hike will
be followed by a communal
breakfast. •
Miss Elise Zeme of Detroit, an
active Avukah leader, w a s
awarded the Hillel Hostess Schol-
arship by the Bnai Brith Hillel
Foundation of the University of
Michigan.

IN BESSARABIA

ISTANBUL—A reliable survey
of the position of the Jews in
Rumania reaching here this week
reveals that only 500 Jews re-
main in Bessarabia where the
Jewish population numbered
more than 200,000 last year.

Sachar to Address
Pisgah Auxiliary's
Luncheon on Tuesday

On Tuesday, at 12:30, the Bnai
Brith • Pisgah Auxiliary No. 122
will hold its 3rd annual donor
luncheon, at Masonic Temple,
with Dr. Abram L. Sachar, na-
tional director of Hillel Founda-
tions, as guest speaker.
Many notables will be present
as guests to hear Dr. Sachar de-
liver his address on "Our Rendez-
vous with Destiny". This will be
Dr. Sachar's only speaking en-
gagement in Detroit as war ser-
vice activities have made pressing
demands upon him elsewhere.
Mrs. Gerald Goldberg, chair-
man of the donor luncheon ex-
pecti . a record attendance for
this affair, an added feature of

which will be the modeling of
current -fashions by Russek's.

UNVEILING OF TOMBSTONES
The family of the late Mrs.
Rachel Gorelick and Capt. Harry
S. Gorelick wish to invite their
relatives and friends for the un-
veilings to take place Sunday,
Nov. 1, at 11 A. M., at the Chesed
Shel Emes Cemetery.

Acquisition of the new home
for the Bnai Brith Hillel Founda-
tion of the University of Mich-
igan, at Ann Arbor, was made
possible by the efforts of a group
of leaders throughout the state.
Irwin I. Cohn has taken an
active. part in the campaign to
raise the necessary funds and
has endowed a room in the new
Hillel home, located at 730 Haven
St., in memory of his parents,
by giving a liberal contribution.
Dedication of the new Hillel
home will take place this Sun-
day.
