Israel of Detroit will be cele-
brated by a series of events
beginning next Friday and con-
cluding with the anniversary
banquet, Sunday evening, Nov.
.15.
The first Friday evening forum
of Congregation Beth Tefilo
Emanuel, Taylor and Woodrow
Wilson, on Nov. 6, will inaugu-
rate the Young Israel celebra-
tion. Rabbi Max J. Wohlgelern-
- ter and Cantor. Hyman Schul-
singer will be . in charge of the
program and the guest speaker
it will be Israel. Upbin of New
York, executive director of the
National Council of Young Is-
. rael. Mr. Upbin was a member
of the first graduating class of
Yeshiva College in 1932, receiv-
ing his B.A., magna cum laude.
He has served as president of
Yeshiva College Alumni Associa-
tion.
Sabbath Morning Services
On Saturday morning, Ncrv. 7,
: Rabbis Moses Fischer and Jacob
J.Nathan, Cantor • David Katz-
man and President Adolph Beck
will have charge of a special
Young Israel service at the Bnai
Moshe, LArrence and Dexter. All
Young Israel members will par-
ticipate in the service and Mr.
Upbin will deliver the sermon.
The public is invited. •
Young Israel's participation
will be in line with the tradition
of developing a model service in
harmony with traditional observ-
ance. Young Israel Sabbath serv-
ices are held regularly at 2691
Joy Road and at branches in
Congregations 'Beth Abraham,
Beth Tefilo Emanuel and Bnai
Zion.
Anniversary 'Banquet
Young Israel's 20th anniversary
banquet, Sunday evening, Nov.
15, will be held in the social
hall of Shaarey Zedek. The
speakers will include Dr. H.
Raphael Gold of Dallas. Tex.,
and J. David Delman. national
president of Young Israel,
Mr. Delman is " a New York
attorney who has held numerous
offices in Young Israel. He has
served as chairman of Young.
Israel's Employment Bureau for
Sabbath Observers and as vice-
charman of the United War Vet-
erans' Committee of New York.
He is a member of the Army and
Navy Committee of the JeWish
Welfare Board and president of
the Lawyers' Community Club.

Michigan Synagogue
Conference to Meet
In Detroit on Nov. 8

Rabbi S. P. Wohlgelernter of
Congregation Bikur C h o li m,
Seattle, .. Wash., will be the
speaker at the luncheon meeting
of the semi-annual conference of
the Michigan Synagogue Confer-
ence on Nov. 8, at Yeshivath Beth
Yehudah.
Co-ordination of war efforts af-
fecting synagogues will fie dis-
cussed. The business session, at
2 p. m., will follow the luncheon.
The board of directors will meet
in the morning.
Officers of the Michigan Syna-
gogue Conference are: Morris
Mohr, president; Rabbi Joshua
S. Sperka, secretary.

Boys' Breakfast Club
Meets Sunday Morning

The Boys' Breakfast Club will
resume its third season at the
.Bnai David Sunday at 9 A. M.
An boys of Bar Mitzvah age
are invited to join. The club
meets every Sunday morning for
services, after which they ad-
journ for Breakfast and discus-
sion in the social hall • of the
synagogue.

ple Beth El will speak au Friday
evening, Nov. 6, at the Sabbath
Eve services on "Is There Any.
Hope for an Enduring Peace?—
An Armistice Day Message."
A social hour under the aus-
pices of the Temple Sisterhood
will follow the services.
Music will be rendered by the
Temple quartet under the direc-
tion of Julius Chajes, with Jason
Tickton at the organ.
Dr. Glazer will preach at the
Sabbath morning services at 11.

in a series on "The Post-War
World" at Beth El College of
Jewish Studies next Monday at
9 P. M. Mr. Ballenger, who has
achieved prominence in the field
of social welfare, will present
his picture of the post-war world
from the point of view of a
trained sociologist.
For thoie not registered in the
College there is a fee of 25 cents
per lecture.
Registration is still open for
Rabbi Zeiger's course in "The
World Today," and Rabbi Ly-
mon's course in "Modern Jewish
Culture," which meet at 8 P. M.

On Friday night, Nov. 6, Rabbi
Leon Fram of Temple Israel will
open a series of sermons on the
legend and folklore of the Jew-
ish people.
The opening sermon will be
entitled "The Legends of Abra-
ham." Other titles in the -series
will be "The Jewish Legend of
Creation," "The Folklore of the
Sabbath," "Jewish Messiah Lore,"
"The Epic of Moses," "The Saga
of David," and "The Legendary
Wisdom of Solomon."
Services are held in the lec-
ture hall of the Detroit Institute
of Arts every Friday at 8:30 P.M.
The services are followed by a
social hour sponsored by the
Sisterhood, and by the symposium
Nonsored by the Young People's
Club.
Cantor Robert S. Tulman, ac-
companied by Karl Haas, sings
the traditional Sabbath melodies.
"The Future of- Palestine" is
the subject of Rabbi Fram's ser-
man this Friday night.

Adult Study Night
Changed to Tuesday

In compliance with many re-
quests, the Shaarey Zedek Insti-
tute of Adult Jewish Studies has
changed its meeting night from
Monday to Tuesday. Two ses-
sions are held-7:45 to 8:35 p. m.,
and 8:40 to 9:30 p. m. Classes
in Bible, conversational Hebrew
and Jewish literature will be
held. Additional courses in ele-
mentary Hebrew, Jewish post-
war problems and Jewish observ-
ances and practices, will be
opened upon request of a suf-
ficient number of registrants.

Rabbi Bauman Enters
Army Chaplains' • School

Rabbi Morton A. Bauman, son
of Harry Bauman of 2724 Hazel-
wood Ave., who recently left his
rabbinical post to become a chap-
lain at Fort Ord, Calif., is enter-
ing the Harvard University Chap-
lains' School. Rabbi Bauman
visited in Detroit this week with
his family, en route to Cam-
bridge, Mass., to commence his
studies at the Harvard school.
