By FRED M. BUTZEL

Vice-president, War Chest of Metropolitan Detroit; Chairman

of Executive Committee, Jewish Welfare Federation

The significance of the War Chest to the Jewish com-

munity and particularly to the Service Group should be
fully realized.

By reason of the merger of the Allied Jewish Cam-
paign into the Detroit War Chest our solicitors who usually
are very generous with their time to both the Community
Fund and to the Spring campaign of the Jewish group are
relieved of the strain of one of the campaigns.

Subscriptions from the Jews for the War Chest can
be so arranged that the payments, at least those portions
which are in excess of the ordinary contribution to the
Detroit Community Funcl can be made after the sub-
scriptions to the 1942 Allied Jewish Campaign have been
paid.

In view of the fact that until next June no demands will
' made on the War Chest for the Allied Jewish Cam-
, o
,re ,gn allocations if will not be necessary for our Jewish
lisb up to make ifs maximum cash remittances to the War
tc,
.40st until next June—but. the PLEDGE should be made

to cover the 1943 pledges for all the causes corn-

d i including, of course, the Allied Jewish Campaign,

Every consideration of honor, patriotism and interest
dictates that every Jew contribute generously to the War
Chest. The Jewish group is interested in every element
of the campaign but specially in the USO, the Community
Fund, the Russian War Relief and the Allied Jewish Cam-
paign. Some of the Jews also have special interest in the
British, Dutch, Polish, Chinese and Greek funds, and we
are all desperately concerned about the fund for our war
prisoners.

To an extraordinary degree this War.Chest campaign
involves the cooperation of all persons and groups in

Detroit. AT LAST THE NON-JEWISH COMMUNITY IS
HELPING JEWISH CAUSES AND RECOGNIZING THAT
THEY ARE THE CAUSES OF DEMOCRACY.

Every Jew is expected to contribute the amount that
represents his contribution to the Community Fund, the
Allied Jewish Campaign, the USO and his proper share
of the various war relief funds.

I am confident that the Jewish workers and the Jewish
contributors will see this campaign as one of the greatest
opportunities for all out effort that has come to them.
