ACTIVITIES IN SOCIETY
Dr. Samuel Altschuler, who has been commissioned a major in
the U. S. Medical Corps, left on Thursday for his post at the Beau-
mont Hospital in El Paso, Tex. Mrs. Altschuler will join him later.
Mrs. Eugene Kopple of Colorado Ave. is visiting her son-in-law
and daughter, Dr. and Mrs. H. J. Rothchild, in St. Paul, Minn.
Complimenting Miss Marcia Solowich, who will become the
bride of Robert Kaye on Oct. 118, Mrs. Charles Solowich, Mrs. Wil-
liam Rhodes, Mrs. Henry Berlow, Mrs. Frank Castle and Miss Pearl
Solowich were hostesses at a dinner and miscellaneous shower at the
Wilshire Hotel on Wednesday evening. Also in Miss Solowich's honor
was the personal shower given on Thursday evening by Miss Rhoda
Schaefer in her home on Rochester Ave.
Mr. and Mrs. Leon S. Schenbeck of Monte Vista Ave. had as
their guest last week Mrs. Adolph Eisner of Chicago.
Dr. David A. Benson, who has been commissioned First Lieut.
with the U. S. Army Medical Corps, is stationed at Station Hospital
at Indiantown Gap Military Reservation, Pa. Mrs. Benson is with
her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. Cohen, at Ephrata, Pa., which is 40
miles from the Reservation.
Announcement was made this week that the marriage of Miss
Virginia Suzanne Lichtenstein, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel
B. Lichtenstein of 2446 Clairmount Ave., to Lieut. Harry Arthur
Heller, son of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Heller of 5692 W. Vernor
Highway, will take place during the Oct. 9 week-end in California.
The bride-elect and her mother left for the -west coast last Friday.
The couple plan to spend their honeymoon in southern California
and Mexico, and after his furlough Lieut. Heller will return to
his duties with the Coast Guard at Camp Callan, San Diego, Calif.
The bride-elect was entertained by the following: Mrs. David
Babitch, Mrs. Edward Schwartz, Mrs. Benjamin Feinstein. Mrs.
William Marcus, Mrs. Irene Gordon, Mrs. Harry Davis, Mrs. J.
Kassel of Toledo. Mrs. Jennie Paris of Toledo was a guest at
some of the functions given in Miss Lichtenstein's honor. Mrs.
Lichtenstein plans to be/away for four weeks, visiting in Los
Angeles, Denver, Oklahoma City and other Western cities.
Mr. and Mrs. Leon Kay of Parkside Ave. left for a two weeks'
visit in New York. They will attend the conventions of Hadassah
and the Zionist Organization of America.

of Strathcona Drive, Palmer Woods, is attending the University of
Michigan.
Mrs. Alick Rosenthal of Petoskey, honorary president of the
Michigan State Federation of Temple Sisterhoods, participated in
the 21st annual convention of the Federation held in Pontiac, Oct.
6 and 7. Mrs. Rosenthal was the second president of the Temple
Sisterhoods Federation.
The Royal Oak Music Club invited Marguerite Kozenn, soprano.
and Julius Chajes, composer and pianist, for a recital to be held
on Oct. 13.
Herbert Levin, a junior at the University of Michigan medical
school, son of Prof. and Mrs. Samuel M. Levin, was the guest during
the past week-end of his sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs.
Stanley Friedman (Miriam Levin) in Cleveland.
Mrs. Benjamin Goldstein and daughter, Jane, entertained 25
guests on Oct. 1, at a dinner and kitchen shower at Huyler's, in
honor of Mrs. Joseph Kleinman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William
Present of Pontiac, who recently became the bride of Ensign Klein-
man of Grand Rapids.
Mr. and Mrs. B. A. Gladwin (Rhea E. Cashman) spent the
last week in New York City, celebrating their 10th wedding
anniversary.

are visiting Mrs. Bernie's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Blackman

At the State Convention of Michigan Teachers' Association to
take place this year in Detroit, Oct. 13, a concert devoted to Mich-
igan composers will feature Hebrew songs written by Julius Chajes.
Marguerite Kozenn will be the soloist.
